(Updated below)

Today's 9:30 Coffee Break is a tribute to some of the great gravelly voices in music. Who are some singers who don't "technically" have great, clear voices, but who are totally powerful singers anyway? Help us put together a good set showcasing some today.

Update: A fine field of froggy-throats were suggested today. We played:

1) Louis Armstrong, "Takes Two To Tango"
2) Lucinda Williams, "Real Love"
3) Tom Waits, "Big In Japan"
4) Howlin' Wolf, "Evil"
5) Janis Joplin, "Get It While You Can"

Of course, Tom Waits, but how about "Old Shoes and Picture Postcards?" It's sweetly gravelly.

Joe Cocker? I don't have a favorite song, but "You Can Leave Your Hat On" springs to mind.

Any Tom Waits, sure. But what about the great John Prine? How about "Sam Stone" or "Dear Abby".
And latter day Levon Helm is a winner, how about "Tennessee Jed" from Electric Dirt?

Louis Armstrong, please. What a Wonderful World is my favorite. It's nice to share a birth date with him, too. :)
