Jill and I arrived in Manchester, TN for the Bonnaroo Festival at about 2pm yesterday. I'd never been, so when I wandered on to the grounds after our check in meeting, I decided to get the lay of the land. There's the What Stage, Which Stage, This Tent, That Tent, and the Other Tent. Yup, those are really their names. There's a neon mushroom-shaped water fountain to keep folks cool during hot days. I even found a super-size version of the video game, Rock Band - imagine playing that on a stage.
Jill and I have been checking in with The Current from some cool radio digs. We've got hay bail studios behind us where bands like The XX and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have recorded in-studio performances. We're under a huge white tent with plexiglass sides held up by two-by-fours that have been painted white. We're here with folks from NPR Music, who are putting together a stream of Bonnaroo performances that you can listen to all weekend long. (And in air conditioning if you want!) Check out some awesome photos here: Bonnaroo Photos
Wayne Coyne stopped by our radio compound to chat with Jill Riley and Bob Boilen of NPR's All Songs Considered. We'll be airing that interview tonight just before midnight when we broadcast The Flaming Lips' live performance of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon."
I'll be checking in with Mary Lucia shortly after 5pm with the latest deets. If you missed any updates, you can listen to them here.
