Have you heard? May 25th is International Geek Pride Day; the day for all geeks to be proud of their geekdom and proclaim it far and wide. Talk about science fiction and fantasy movies, dress unfashionably, feel liberated from the need to engage in sports (or even talking about them), and enjoy lots of jokes at the expense of those less intelligent than you.
Let's make a geek set today for the 9:30 Coffee Break. Songs by geeks or about geeky subjects, or both.
"We Are Devo"- Devo
"Buddy Holly"- Weezer
"Star Wars Theme"- John Williams
"Hot and Nerdy"- Wierd Al Yankovic
A topic near and dear to my heart! There are MANY excellent options here, but honestly, whenever I think of "geek rock" I IMMEDIATELY think of Talking Heads; particularly the first three albums. My selection is "Electricity" off of Fear Of Music...
Blitzen Trapper - Sci Fi Kid
The STAR WARs - Disco Theme ... Its geeky & Sexy!
Btw - I am Darth Vader in the local 501st Garrison (Geek)
Make a Circuit with Me by The Polecats
Oh - DON'T PANIC! It's also Towel Day in memory of Douglass Adams.
Thomas Dolby-- She blinded me with science.
Trio--da da da
You can't do a geek set without The Geeks Were Right by The Faint.
You have to play Weezer, but I think "In The Garage" is more nerd appropriate than "Buddy Holly". Anything by Coheed & Cambria as they sing about wizards and Lord of the RIngs references are aplenty. And of course, "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby.
white and nerdy--weird al
in the garage--weezer
science is real--they might be giants (or almost anything by them, for that matter!)
In the Garage by Weezer. Geeks everywhere revel in the references to Dungeons & Dragons.
My Morning Jacket - Librarian
Geek Stink Breath is appropriate but.... noty >.>
If you're wondering if I want you to, I want you to by Weezer
Underground -- Ben Folds Five ["I was never cool in school . . ."]
Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks -- the National
Buddy Holly by tweezers
Also whenever I think geek I immediately think of they mighr be giants! You should play Istanbul or why does the sun shine or even birdhouse! You can't have a geek gathering. Without Jon and john
Have to have some they might be giants - Birdhouse in Your Soul'd be my pick. Ooh, and how about that great keeper... the galaxy song/lighten up by Jim Post
el chupa nibre - dangerdoom (mf doom is a geek)
I will be very sad if Pocket Calculator by Kraftwerk is not included.
Happy Geek Day!
She blinded me with science - Thomas Dolby (?)
Particle Man - They Might be Giants
Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun or Add it Up
pretty boy virgins - pigeon john
Geek rock always makes me think of the Weez, hands down.
Though I would like to second "Underground" by Ben Folds ... good call.
They Might Be Giants is an obvious choice -- I say go doubly geeky and play one of their "educational" songs:
- Mammal
- James K. Polk
- The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas
- Meet James Ensor
"The Geeks Were Right" - The Faint
"Geekquilibrium" - Dr. Awkward
"Science Genius Girl" - Freezepop
"Mandelbrot Set" - Jonathan Coulton
"But She Beat My High Score" - Say Hi to Your Mom
"White and Nerdy" - Weird Al Yankovic
"Ramble On" - Led Zeppelin
Ramble On - Led Zeppelin
Revenge of the Nerds Tri-Lams Rap!
Devo – Through Bein’ Cool
Kraftwerk – Pocket Calculator
Oingo Boingo – Weird Science
Ramones – Pinhead
They Might Be Giants – Why Does the Sun Shine? Or Particle Man or Mammal
Man or Astroman – Interplaned Janet
Dead Milkmen – Nutrition
B-52’s – Planet Claire or There’s a Moon in the Sky
ramble on - led zeppelin
OH! And:
"It's All About the Pentiums" - Weird Al Yankovic
Remarkably not that outdated, and an early pioneer of nerdcore :)

Geek U.S.A by Smashing Pumpkins
Ramble On- Led Zeppelin (weird Lord of the Rings references)
Particle Man- They Might Be Giants
Atari - Lucky Boys Confusion
One Foot in Front of the Other, by Bone Symphony
There's no better way to celebrate Geek Appreciation Day than for you and fellow fraternity of nerds to renovate an old house.
I am a Rock by Simon and Garfunkel
Nerdy Boys, Candypants
"Cause I don't want an athlete
I tingle for a mathlete"
... is sad. :(
I'll just have to listen to it by myself now.
