Mark Linkous, best known for the work with the band Sparklehorse has died. Rolling Stone reported that he took his own life.
A statement from his family said, "We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There's a heaven and there's a star for you."
Mark Linkous grew up in a coal mining family in North Carolina. In the 80's he formed his first band was called, Dancing Hoods. In 1995 he formed Sparklehorse, who released 4 albums. Most recently he recorded an album with Danger Mouse called Dark Night of the Soul which ran into legal problems with the EMI label. Ironicly, the label and the musicians worked out their differences and the album was to come as Linkous and Danger Mouse had intended.
Linkous appeared in the Current's studios in 2007.
What a devastating loss of talent
My personal favorite for many years. What a shame.
