Tuesday: Ian Matthews, "Valley Hi" (1973)
English singer-songwriter Ian Matthews was once a member of Fairport Convention. His solo albums are a pretty great listen. I bought this one right off the turntable at Hymie's when I heard his version of "7 Bridges Road."
*On the air I mistakenly referred to him as being Canadian. Guess I had the Olympics on the brain, my apologies.*
Wednesday: The Cyrkle, "Red Rubber Ball" (1966)
A one hit wonder band managed by Brian Epstein (yup, THAT Brian Epstein). They even opened for The Beatles in the summer of 1966. Don Dannemann and Tom Dawes would go on to be jingle writers after their short career in rock n' roll was over.
Thursday: Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, "Jazz Samba" (1962)
I was told this is a must have for my vinyl collection. It's a very cool release on the Verve label with a nice bossa-nova groove. You'll want to shake up a martini while listening. We played "Samba Dees Days."
Friday: The Buckinghams, "Time & Charges" (1967)
The Buckinghams were from Chicago, but they embraced the look and sound of the British Invasion. They had a few hits, including their cover of the jazz standard "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy."
