(updated below)
It's about this time every morning that certain friends of mine tend to post Facebook updates regarding their particular experience at the moment on the bus (or at the bus stop). I always look forward to their posts. For example, this morning one friend posted, "The man on the bus just informed all of us that he might pass out. And that he loves birthdays." Riding the bus is such a fun way to start your day, isn't it? (Earlier, another noted, "First at the bus stop, first on the bus. It's the unspoken rule").
Howabout some "bus songs" today for our 9:30 Coffee Break topic?
Update: Lots of common responses today. We played the big favorites, but also the clever suggestions like the Simon & Garfunkel tune and the Hang-Ups' lovely, underrated little gem.
1) Soul Coughing, "Bus to Beelzebub"
2) The Hollies, "Bus Stop"
3) The Replacements, "Kiss Me On the Bus"
4) Simon & Garfunkel, "America"
5) The Hang-Ups, "Greyhound Bus"
6) The Who, "Magic Bus"
Soul Coughing — Bus To Beelzebub
"Kiss Me On The Bus" by The Replacements always seems to pop into my head on the MTA
Another One Rides the Bus - Weird Al
Oh, I forgot Bus Stop by the Hollies
Another one Rides the Bus.
Come on. You can't do this topic without Weird Al!
50 ways to leave your lover- Paul Simon
"get on the bus, Gus"
The Spadina Bus from the Shuffle Demons.
circa. 1986
NOt sure if it made it to the airwaves here, but was somewhat of a hit in Toronto (back in the day)
Somewhat catchy. (if I remember correctly)
Thanks!
The Who - Magic Bus?
Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Street? -- Bruce
I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus -- Firesign Theatre [c'mon, it's only 40 minutes long]
Second for Kiss Me On the Bus
Violent Femmes - Waiting For The Bus
Slow Bus Movin' (howard beach party) - Fishbone
The Who, "Magic Bus" popped into my head immediately. Noah Jones did something too with a line about getting away on a bus.
"American Cliche" -Filter
Bruce Springsteen-Does this bus stop at 82nd street
Soul Coughing-Bus to Beelzebub
And not really a Current kind of song, but how about On a Bus to St Cloud by Trisha Yearwood....
Ramblin' Man
Magic Bus
"The Magic Schoolbus"- Little Richard
I Missed the Bus by Kris Kross - a classic.
2nding other suggestions:
Bus to Beelzebub - Soul Coughing
Another One Rides The Bus - Weird Al
Bus Stop - The Hollies
Oddly, I own all three source albums.
rosa parks...outkast feat. 2pac version
One of Us - Joan Osborne
"What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home"
regarding the melancholy side of riding a bus...
Greyhound Bus/The Hang Ups
The Guess Who - Bus Rider
"Get on the Bus" The Boo Radleys
"Bus Stop" The Hollies
Rockets - Backtalk
Don't wana hear another word about bein' born in the back of a bus..
ZZ Top - Waitin on the Bus
Replacements - Kiss me on the Bus.
Second on...
The Who - Magic Bus
Paul Simon - 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
"My Name Is Cheech, I Am The Schoolbus Driver" by Cheech Marin
Who can't use some silly fun???
Being me, I will "third" "Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Streeet?"...Not that it will actually get played:)
Yeah, second for Bus Stop - The Hollies or Magic Bus - The Who.
"Fluke" by Mates of State
"Kiss Me On The Bus" by The Replacements
Not Weird Al. Please.
Can we also dedicate this to all the characters who ride the bus? Like Scott Seekins.
Can't believe no one has mentioned ZZ Top-Waitin' For The Bus
America by Simon & Garfunkel is a great bus song, full of longing and dreams yet to be realized...
Bus Stop Boxer - The Eels
_There is a Light and it Never Goes Out_ by the Smiths. A double decker bus killing both of us would definitely be a bus ride to remember.
I completely and wholeheartedly endorse Wendy's suggestion of "Cheech the School Bus Driver." That song is pure awesomeness extract.
Violent Femmes "Waiting On The Bus"
Berlin "The Metro" (though that might be about a commuter train...)
Also, there's got to be at least one Wesley Willis song about a bus...right?
"Kiss Me on the Bus" - The Replacements
"Bus Stop" - The Hollies
"There is a Light that Never Goes Out" - The Smiths
"America" - Simon & Garfunkel
The White Stripes doing 'Wheels on the Bus' on an actual Winnipeg city bus:

The Kooks – Bus Song
Another good Replacements song about the bus is Hangin Downtown. "Bus stop... Bus stop... Anyway I got no place else to go."
I also second Violent Femmes- Waiting for the bus or Soul Coughing's Bus to Beelzabub! :)
How about Earn Enough For Us by XTC?
I've been praying all the week through,
At home, at work and on the bus...
Another Beatles song:
Umbrella
Please play Steeplejack - Panning for Gold
School Bus Driver - Trampled By Turtles
I Missed the Bus - Skankin' Pickle
In my opinion, that Hang Ups song "Greyhound Bus" would have been better suited for yesterday's topic - songs that were nearly ruined by bad sax!
