It seems almost unbelievable that we've entered a new decade. Can you absorb what that means? How will be look back on the 2000s? The culture? The music? Technology? We know the stories that dominated our lives (9/11, War, Recession, Bush, Obama, etc), but how we sort out the developments and trends - and how did we ever find anything online before ?
This weekend we pay tribute to the decade - and ask you to weigh in on a few topics. Take the poll and listen over the weekend and catch the results (also to be posted here next week). I'm still not so sure what we're going to end up calling the decade that just was - Aughts feels soooooo 1907, but Zeros... ah, anyway - here ya go!
This one is pretty self-explanatory. .
Break-Out Artist
In a decade ruled by technology and change, what development do you think was most significant - especially for music?
Game Changer of the Decade
Finally, in a decade where mass culture de-volved into American Idol style/drama over substance, what was the worst of a lot of bad ideas?
The Aught Nots
love Chris cornell with soundgarden & even more with audioslave but he stubbed his toe big time on the solo deal- by the way, Chinese Democracy does kick some tush, don't get caught up with th Axl-haters!!
And how you can hate on Yacht rock God Michael McDonald "rockin" it with Grizzly Bear? The dude still has it. No apologies.
Not GnR's best album, but I liked "Chinese Democracy" And I'm sorry, but I liked "Ursa Major" by Third Eye Blind. That was their most solid work in years. And they didn't need a big time corporate record company to sound good, either.
I'm a big fan of Arcade Fire, but landslide wins in both Best Album and Break-out Artist? Seriously?
Good use of Weezer when it comes to a poll about the 00's. Can't we all go back to 1996 and buy that Pinkerton album that everyone seems to love now? If it weren't such a flop in the beginning we wouln't have to worry about this whole Lil Wayne fiasco.
I havn't been this excited about music in at least 20 years. There is more sonic yummy goodness then ever. Thank you for supporting quality creative music for everyone. God bless the arts.
Personally, the coming of The Current saved me musically. Having DJs I liked from other stations playing what they like, sharing their comments with us, introducing us to new music, keeping us current with the local music scene is a wonderful thing. Thanks to The Current, I actually get to hear the music I read about. Happy Birthday and I hope we have many more years together.
I agree about Creed, Sugar Ray, etc... but new Third Eye Blind is actually really good. Seriously.
Can't hate on Candlebox either, but yeah, Creed. *shudder*
