Dear Conan: Please Say "I'll Be Right Back"

So tonight is Conan O'Brien's last night as host of The Tonight Show. For a lot of folks (myself and Jill included), that's a drag. Make all the arguments that you like for or against NBC's move, it's still hard not to feel like Conan got a severely raw deal (well, aside from that 45 million dollar severance package, of course).

We eagerly look forward to seeing what Conan has in store for his final show this evening, but in the meantime, got anything you'd like to say to Conan in song? Let's put together a set for Conan this morning for the 9:30 Coffee Break. Songs that might be appropriate as we bid farewell, and hopefully, "see you again real soon" - like perhaps on another network?

Left of the Dial by The Replacements.

While I think NBC screwed up with the whole thing Conan seems to be acting like a crazy jilted lover with his ex's credit card...just sayin.
I'll be glad when he is on another network doing his show so we can all get past this and I can enjoy his sense of humor again.

I second "Take This Job And Shove It", but advocate for the Dead Kennedys' version.

"So Long" - X (from Live At The Whiskey A Go-Go) or the original Woody Guthrie version.

"Let's Build a Home"- The White Stripes

The White Stripes did a weeklong stand on his Late Night program. The last night of this stand, they sang "Let's Build a Home"- and Jack White played guitar on Conan's desk. GREAT TV moment.

Other suggestions would be "The Denial Twist" (Conan appears in the video) of "We are Gonna be Friends"(last Late Night w/ Conan episode)

Tears of a Clown by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Even though Conan's going out in a giddy display, you know he's got to be crying on the inside.

I remember an NBC special, I can't remember what it was for, but Conan played "Walk on the Wild Side" with Lou Reed... so that would be sweet.

Or how about some E-Street band love for Max!

Readheaded Stepchild is a really good suggestion!

I'm sad I won't see Conan for a while. I've been watching him for over 10 years. I know he'll be back in some form or another, but I don't look forward to the break. It'll be as excrutiating as waiting for LOST.

I Want You Back - Hoodoo Gurus

Posted by ken | January 22, 2010 9:22 AM

Didn't even think to suggest something from E-Street..."Independence Day" off of The River would be fairly appropriate...

a galaxie 500 song....as wiki states...

In their early years, Krukowski didn't own a drum kit, so he borrowed one from his Harvard classmate Conan O'Brien, who'd bought a kit but had recently given up playing it. This drum kit can be heard on many of Galaxie 500's early recordings.[5]

Conan always had the best musical guests, The Strokes being on of my favorite “new band” at the time and it was so sick to see them “live” as they weren’t on their way to Minneapolis anytime soon. I’d like to ask Conan ,”Is This It?” a request from The Strokes :)

Posted by Jessika Hassan | January 22, 2010 9:27 AM

Conan's favorite band is the White Stripes, and they were his last guests on his last Late Night. "I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself"? "I think I Smell a Rat"? "Truth Doesn't Make a Noise"...

"Why Can't You Be Nicer to Me"!

No Speak No Slave - The Black Crowes
The Song Remains the Same - Led Zeppelin

When Irish Eyes are Smiling - John McCormack
And as a sidenote.... I think Johnny Carson would be really dissapointed in Jay and NBC

You better play sone white stripes. He loves them.

gonna miss conan on lat night. i would rather stick a sharp knife in my eyes than watch craig ferguson. he is not funny at all. guess ill have to watch letterman, he is pretty good.

Posted by ricky | January 22, 2010 9:51 AM

Well, should he go to FOX, maybe he can get back together with Matt Groening. "Little Conan" cartoon shorts during his show, or something.

it's hard to feel sorry for someone who is getting 4o million.there is plenty of unemployed workers that would like to change places.

House of Hain - Top o the morning to ya.....
or House of Pain - When Irish eyes are smiling.

Posted by tim | January 22, 2010 9:56 AM

Its funny to say this but its true: today is also my last day at my current job after 7 months! I dont feel screwed or have any severeance money coming to me but the sadness of leaving a good place is definitely there. I've listened to this show in the mornings while here and Ive loved it and hated it but now it feels like its over. My two cents are you guys r entertainers n your topics are lighthearted and silly but keep in mind that you are also socially responsible to your community and watching American Idol or promoting escapist activities like drinking and watching stupi television is educating your listeners. Everything you do is important from your words to the music you play and the causes you support. You are public figures now and have a lot of responsability for that. Good luck.
