For the 9:30 Coffee Break, help us put together a diverse mix honoring vets today. It doesn't even have to be a song specifically about veterans; if it feels appropriate for the day, let us know what it is and we'll weave together a good set with your help.
This might be a bit long and downbeat, but the best and most appropriate veterans song I have ever heard is "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by The Pogues.
Muse - Solder's Poem
The Alarm "Happy x-mas {war is over}
Antibalas "War Hero"
Bob Marley "Buffalo Soldier"
Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms"
"Sam Stone" by John Prine
"And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" - sung & written by Eric Bogel
The Iron and Wine cover of "Love Vigilantes" is one of the most haunting songs I have ever heard. My husband and I still argue: is the singer a ghost, or did his wife receive a mistaken notification of his death? Either way, the song perfectly captures all that a soldier puts on the line.
-star spangled banner-jim Hendrix
-America -ray Charles

"Requiem" by M. Ward
We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Animals
My dad was in Viet Nam and he doesn't talk much about it, but I know that he flew around in the helicopters. He said they would blast this song whenever it was on and I like picturing him flying around in a helicopter rocking out to this song. I think about it every time I hear it.
Johnny Come Lately - Steve Earle
Stars and Sons - Broken Social Scene
Thank You - Led Zeppelin
Would it be inappropriate to request "The Field" by Mason Jennings?
"the general" - dispatch
Being a Marine myself I can't beleive I didn't think of "The Ballad Of Ira Hayes" by Johnny Cash
