Time again for our periodic Friday feature, Viernes No Ingles - when we take your requests for songs sung in any language but English. It's just that simple. Jot 'em down below, or here.
For the dude in all of us.. you guys have got to play: Gipsy Kings - Hotel California
Devendra Banhart- Santa Maria De La Feira
3 Lil Putos or Latin Lingo by Cypress Hill. First album was produced by the Dust Bros and is actually pretty good.
How about "Aserejé" by Las Ketchup?
Sigur Rós - Starálfur
and maybe for an extra treat:
Jane Birkin, Serge Gainsbourg - Je t'aime... moi non plus
Ent schuldige bitte, (excuse me please) in my last post I used "music" in stead of "English"; so to revise: "Kein Englisch Freitag" is "No English Friday"--amazing how close German is to English? Well, English derives most directly from German.
MOVITS!
Swingin' Swedish Hip Hop
Oh I have been waiting for something like this ;)
no english Friday would be "englischfreier Freitag" (basically Enlish-free Friday).
My suggestion: anything from Wir sind Helden such as Wenn es passiert or Gib mir ein Worr. Also beautiful Tocotronics Hi Freaks. Or of course Nena's 99 red balloons. ;)
Ibrahim Ferrer - Marieta
Gipsy Kings - Hotel California
Chingon - Malaguena Salerosa
Los Teen Tops - El Rock de la Carcel
Hugues Aufray adaptation "La fille du nord".
Jean-Louis Murat "Avalanche IV" off the "Im your Fan" Leonard Cohen tribute.
Pixies "Isla de Encanta"
Uno mas:
Reventon (Ballroom Blitz) - Moderatto
Secon the Motion for Gypsy Kings "Hotel California"!
Coralie Clement:
"Indicise" "Un Beau Jour pour Mourir" "Kids (Jeu du Foulard)"
The following are all from the Frida soundtrack, and I love them:
Los Cojolites:
"El Conejo"
Chavela Vargas:
"Paloma negra"
Salma Hayek:
"La Bruja"
Lila Downs:
"La Llorna"
Mil Besos - Patty Griffin
La Vie En Rose - Edith Piaf
C'est Si Triste - Ann Savoy
Jaan Pehechaan Ho - Mohammed Rafi (Ghost World soundtrack)
Bellarosa by Eliza Gilkyson. Beautiful song.
this is a very beautiful cover of another swedish artist, please consider playing it!!! (Swedish)
Opeth - Den Ständiga Resan
Richie Valens - La Bamba
My perennial request for Tsuyoshi Kawakami doing Daydream Believer stands. But I dare you to find and play a better Japanese Reggae track!
Seu Jorge. Anything from the Life Aquatic with STteve Zissou soundtrack. Maybe Rebel Rebel.
I'd like to request the song Akari by monkey majik
Really Old Song!
Song: "Jewish", Album: "The Family That Plays Together", Band: "Spirit"
Not sure if you received from song suggestion from another post I sent that isn't showing up above: try "Polar" by Barbara Morgenstern-- a cool German language song I heard on the Current once upon a time.
Radio Futura: "Escuela de Calor"
Fun song featured in Guitar Hero World Tour.
This one is awesome!
Jennifer Lopez - Que Hiciste
MC Solaar - La Belle et le Bad Boy
Sergent Garcia - Camino de la Vida
Please play "Gold" by Klee!
By "La 33" -
La 33
La Pantera Mambo (Salsa version of the Pink Panther Theme)
Quireme Na Ma
By "ChocQuibTown" -
Prietos
El Bombo
De Donde Vengo Yo
Juanes - Rosario Tijeras
I second the vote for Gypsy Kings - Hotel California
"Siehst du das Genauso?" by Sportfreunde Stiller. My entire high school German class would thank you!
Quelqu'un m'a dit - Carla Bruni
Una Mujer OR Tive Razao - Seu Jorge
Bonnie and Clyde - Serge Gainsbourg with Brigitte Bardot (this is entirely in French minus a couple of terribly pronounced English names here and there)
Żaden Angielski Piątek = Polish translation for "No English Friday"
I am a Minnesotan living in Vienna, Austria, and I was super excited to hear 'Kein Englisch Freitag'!
My vote- 'Die Zeit heilt alle Wunder' by Wir sind Helden
love you the current!
p.s. "No English Friday" in Chinese would be 星期五沒有英語 (shing chee oo (like the "o" in who) may yo ing yoo) (that's the closest I can get w/o using pin yin)
Italian would be "Venerdì senza inglese."
Oh, and "Kein English Freitag" is a terrible butchering of the beautiful German language.
The correct syntax would be "Ohne English Freitag"
(I cheated and used WordMonkey translator)
