It's been a popular source for movie names over the decades: song titles. It seems like it became a particularly common method of naming movies in the '80s, but there are fine examples from other eras too. What are some good ones? Help us think of some and we'll put together a set for today's 9:30 Coffee Break.
Some Kind of Wonderful
Pretty in Pink
the sweetest thing (movie w/cameron diaz, song by lauryn hill)
pretty woman!
or purple rain...i mean, this is MN.
When I first heard of Men in Black, the first thought I had was the Frank Black song. Does that count?
"Can't Buy Me Love"
"Pretty woman"
"Reign Over Me"
"Detroit Rock City"
Dream a Little Dream of Me
My mistake. The movie was "Dream a Little Dream". You should still play the song though, for it is good.
Accross the Universe--The Beatles
Great Movie with one of the best soundtracks ever!
"Spaceballs" - The Spinners
"Closer" - Nine Inch Nails
"Prelude To A Kiss" - Billie Holliday
"Jungle Fever" - Stevie Wonder
"Less Than Zero"- Elvis Costello
Oh! Forgot a couple...
"Ode To Billie Joe" -- if you can find Sinead O'Connor's version that'd be sweet, but Bobbie Gentry's original is great too.
"Dazed And Confused" - Zeppelin
whip it - Devo (the roller derby movie that just came out with Ellen Page)
Boys Don't Cry - The Cure
Super Bad - James Brown
Roxanne - The Police
Stand By Me - Ben E. King
My Blue Heaven - Fats Domino
Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer
Pretty woman
Jumping Jack Flash
Can't Hardly Wait
Iron Man - Black Sabbath
Stand By Me
BLUE VELVET!!
movie: "Feeling Minnesota"
song: "Outshined" by Soundgarden
"Purple Rain"
and
"Dazed and Confused"
I hadn't thought of them until I read them on here, but those are my 2 favorite so far!
BLUE VELVET!!
American Pie
Corrina, Corrina
Pretty Woman
Just Like Heaven
Can't Hardly Wait
My Girl
Do movie biographies of actual artist count?
La Bamba
I Walk the Line
Coal Miner's Daughter
"Sea of Love"
"Jailhouse Rock"
Can't Hardly Wait
That was my introduction to the Replacements. I saw the movie with my girlfriend at the time and immediately went out and bought the soundtrack. Great tune.
Thanks for playing 'Cant Hardly Wait"!
I was just writing lesson plans for my students (I'm a teacher), and I had to get up and dance.
It was a nice break.
And now the lesson plans are going to be the lyrics to that song.
"Girls Just Want To Have Fun" with Sarah Jessica Parker...oh man...talk about an awful movie but great song!
