Today In Music History: Booker T. is 65

Birthdays:

Neil Young is 64.

Today in:

1970 - Singer Jim Morrison performed with The Doors for the last time during a concert in New Orleans. Morrison died in July 1971.
1980 - Bruce Springsteen earned his first number-one album, with "The River."
1984 - Madonna released her "Like A Virgin" album.
1987 - Sly Stone showed up over an hour late to his comeback concert in Los Angeles. When he got there, he was arrested for nonpayment of child support.

History highlight:

Organist Booker T. Jones of Booker T. and the MG's is 65 today. Jones has worked in the studios with some of the highest regarded artists of our time, earning him a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement, but it's his work fronting his band the MG's (including the likes of guitarist Steve Cropper and bassist Duck Dunn) that earned him his greatest fame, playing organ on such tracks as the hugely succesful "Green Onions" and our track today, "Mo' Onions."

Whoa, That's a LOT of Nekkid People

(Warning: NSFW)

The new video for the Flaming Lips' "Watching The Planets" has debuted - this is the one we told you about a couple months ago when it was filming in Portland - featuring a horde of full-frontal naked bicyclists. As it turns out, Wayne Coyne (no doubt feeling the communal naked vibe himself, or at the very least the sense that it wouldn't be fair that he be the only person with clothes on in the video), gets stripped to his birthday suit in the clip as well, and, well, reveals lil' Wayne right there for the world to see.

Again, this video is very NSFW. To avoid even the appearance of company inappropriateness here, I'm sending you only to the Pitchfork article on the video - you can choose to click or not to click on the video itself when you get there.

What ever happened to the mid-song key change? You just don't seem to hear them like you used to. Is it because rock musicians these days don't quite know their music theory like musicians of previous generations did, and only learn their parts to songs chord by chord? Whatever the reason, it's just rare to hear anymore. So help us put together a solid set featuring key changes today for the 9:30 Coffee Break.
