Singer Adam Ant (Stuart Goddard) is 55.

Today in:

1961 - Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and Fred Rose became the first people to be elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
1977 - Elton John announced at a London performance that he was retiring from concerts. However, he started performing again in 1979.
1990 - "Ice Ice Baby", by Vanilla Ice became the first rap record to top the US singles chart, it was also a UK No.1 single. The track was initially released as the B-side to the rapper's cover of "Play That Funky Music", and became the A-side after US DJ's started playing the track.
2002 - Eminem started a 12 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with "Lose Yourself."

Today's music history highlight: It was today in 1957 that Sun Records released "Great Balls Of Fire", by Jerry Lee Lewis. The single went on to sell over five million copies worldwide, a No.1 in the UK & No.2 in the US.

GIRLS are bringing their act to 7th Street Entry on the 14th. Today on our Song Of The Day podcast you can grab the tune "Lust For Life" for free! Picthfork gave the single a 9. They also premiered a video with an XXX - NSFW (not safe for work) warning. I guess that video is different than this one...

"As a first-time father, I'd like to dedicate this set to my brand new baby boy. My wife and I often find ourselves playing music for him as we rock him to sleep, and these three songs are on our dedicated "Baby Playlist." And yes, the pun is fully intended with the last song. The Band of Horses tune might not be the most obvious song, but I think it really seems to fit for a parent having a child grow up... things change, the child moves on, etc., but through it all, no one will ever love their child more than the parent does. "
