Tegan and Sara has a new album out titled Sainthoodand it is our featured CD of the week! We'll be hearing multiple tracks from the record all week including "Alligator", "Arrow", "Don't Rush" and "Hell". Sainthood is in stores now. Tegan and Sara, twins born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada initially played as a band called PLUNK. They began playing in numerous competitions in ttheir native Canada before being discovered and signing to Sire Records. Both girls are similarly involved in vocals and playing instruments, but the actual singing of the lead melody usually goes to whichever twin wrote the particular song. Their fifth album, The Con, was co-produced by Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie and features guest apperences by Jason McGerr of Death Cab for Cutie, Matt Sharp of The Rentals, Hunter Burgan of AFI, and Kaki King. Sainthood, also produced by Chris Walla is their 6th full length album.
Alec Ounsworth "Modern Girl ...(With Scissors)" from his new album Mo Beauty in stores now. Alec is best known as the frontman of indie rock band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. He is also a member of The Pelican Picnic and indie rock-supergroup Flashy Python. Mo Beauty is Alec's first solo release.
Chuck Prophet "Sonny Liston's Blues" from his new album Let Freedom Ring! in stores now. In addition to working as a singer/songwriter, guitarist and musical collaborator with artists like Cake, Kim Carnes and Solomon Burke, Prophet's catalog of self-produced roots rock has really become the work he's best known for. Let Freedom Ring! is Chuck Prophet's 11th solo release.
The Drums "Let's Go Surfing" from their new EP Summertime in stores now. The Drums are an American band from Brooklyn, New York, with members from the band Elkland (formerly Goat Explosion).
Har Mar Superstar "Tall Boy" from his new album Dark Touches in stores now. Har Mar Superstar (aka Sean Tillmann), from Saint Paul Minnesota is also known as the cult indie rocker Sean Na-Na. He first emerged in the late '90s in the twin cities band Calvin Krime; his self-titled debut as Har Mar Superstar emerged in 2000, launching his R&B/ b boy persona as Har Mar Superstar.
The Heavy "How You Like Me Now?" from their new album The House That Dirt Built in stores now. The Heavy are an English indie rock band from Noid, England that play a mix of guitar heavy rock with hip-hop soul. . Guitarist Dan Taylor and Vocalist Kelvin Swaby, became friends when they bonded over vintage R&B and Jim Jarmusch films. The Heavy released their first album titled Great Vengeance and Furious Fire on 17 September, 2007. The House That Dirt Built is The Heavy's second album.
Lissie "Little Lovin" from her new album Why You Runnin' in stores November 11th. Lissie is the newest signing to Fat Possum Records. Her new EP Why You Runnin' was produced by friend Bill Reynolds, who just happens to be the bassist in Band of Horses. She lives by herself, with her dog, in a farmhouse in Ojai, Calif.
Orenda Fink "Why Is The Night Sad" from her new album Ask The Night in stores now. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Fink was half of the Southern pop duo Azure Ray in the early 00's. Fink is also a former member of Now It's Overhead, Art In Manila and O+S. After a spiritual awakening while in Haiti she was inspired, in part, by Haitian folk music and began a solo career. Ask The Night is her second solo release. She is also married to Todd Fink (formerly Todd Baechle) of The Faint.
Tanya Morgan "So Damn Down" from their new album Brooklynati in stores now. Tanya Morgan is a hip hop group from Cincinnati, Ohio. The band started in 2003 when producer/MC Von Pea, from Brooklyn at the time, and MC Donwil, from Cincinanati, met online and decided to collaborate on an album together. Bringing in Ilyas and Cincinnati producer Brickbeat, Tanya Morgan began to send demos back and forth digitally. They only met in person after half the record was already complete! Their debut full-length, Moonlighting, was then released in the spring of 2006. Brooklynati is their 5th release.
Them Crooked Vultures "New Fang" from their new self titled album in stores November 17th. Supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures, features Queens of the Stone Age's guitarist and vocalist Josh Homme, Nirvana/Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl on drums, and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on bass. The band also features Alain Johannes (Eleven, Queens of the Stone Age) as a live rhythm guitarist
White Denim "I Start To Run" from their new album Fits in stores now. The indie rock trio White Denim hail from Austin, TX, where bandmates Josh Block (drums), Steve Terebecki (bass), and James Petralli (guitars, vocals) first set up shop in 2005. Block and Petralli had previously played together in the alt-rock band Parque Torche, while Terebecki was a member of Peach Train.
