You may know about Policy and a Pint, The Current's casual public gatherings where we intive you to chat about issues of the day over a beer. We co-produce those events with the Citizens League, an organization founded to create open dialog about civic and political issues, and this morning, a fellow who's active in the Citizens League stopped by to chat with us about a speech he's giving next week you might be interested in.
Nate Garvis, VP for Political Affairs at Target Corporation, sees a future beyond left-right, blue-red cultural divisions, where we engage in civic discussions not by taking sides in the traditional politically divisive ways, but simply by making "apolitical" choices in the way we live that bring a better future into being (as he says, it's the difference between "choosing to drive a Prius over a Hummer" over marching on Washington or consuming partisan media).
Nate's talk, Naked Civics: Uncovering the Path to the Common Good, will be taking place at the Citizens League annual meeting next Thursday, October 29th at the Pantages Theater; it's free and open to the public, and there's more information here.
