It's time for another edition of Viernes No Ingles, or No English Friday for the 9:30 Coffee Break! Request your favorite song in any language other than English, and we'll put together a set!
Here are the sets we played last time
and the time before that.
You have to do Devandra Branhart's Pensando en ti! That's a great song.
Gypsy Kings-Hotel California for all the "dudes" who abide.
How about Ninety Nine Luft Ballons by Nena, and Oye Como Va by Tito Puente.
Richard Thompson, Ca Plane Pour Moi, proving once again that the man can do anything.
Donde Esta Yolanda by Pink Martini on "Sympathique" or any Pink Martini.
Desconocido Soy by David Byrne
Betece by the Africando All Stars
La Cocinera by Mala Rodriguez
Or anything from the l'augbere espagnole soundtrack...has anyone else seen that movie? It's not really that amazing but the soundtrack is great.
Great job as always guys - my non-english recommendation is "Aicha" by Cheb Khaled.
I had an international roommate in college and this was his favorite song!
Keep up the great work!
Mike
MPR Member (because of the new morning show, and Wheat of course!)
Good luck today!
MC Solaar - Obsolete
Nina Simone - Ne Me Quitte Pas
Mos Def - No Hay Nada Mas on Estatic
Hi there.
How about "ein Tag am Meer" from "the fantstischen vier", a lovely summer song, just what we need today!!
I was wondering if you have and could Play Twiggy by Pizzicato Five? I haven't heard that in years, but it definately isn't English
Dvash Hakol Dvash (דבש הכל דבש) by Ari Gorali & Reut Yehudai...
Or Shalom Latmimoot (שלום לתמימות) by Ronit Shahar...
Carla Bruni "Quelqu'un M'a Dit"
Please, please, please play Sleepy Maggie by Ashley McIsaac. Awesome song with the angelic voice of Mary Jane Lamond singing in gaelic. Plus I'm sleepy.
I need some hip hop in other languages! Here are my suggestions, but any else would be appreciated as well!
Loco en el coco - cypress hill
J'suis blanc - Kamini
Some different idears:
Mercedes Sosa - Luna Tucumana (Argentina)
CSS - Acho Um Pouco Bom (Brazil)
Oi Va Voi - A Csitari Hegyek Allat (Hungarian folk song)
It would make my whole year to hear Sidi H'bibi by Mano Negra on the radio! It's older but so fantastic, and the only "alternative" song I know in Arabic.
I second MC Solaar for hip hop en Francais!
How about The Beatles "Sie Liebt Dich" which is "She Loves You" in German. It's off the Rarities album. It's a fun song to listen to.
How about 'Jaan Pehechaan Ho' by Mohammad Rafi (found on the Ghost World soundtrack)...or MC Solar (Solaar Pleure always works for me).
Feliz Navidad! It's snowing.. sort of. Why not get into the Christmas spirit?
How about gypsy kings bamboleo.
Any chance of seeing some Yelle? "Mon meilleur ami" is a good one.
Moi et Toi by Abdel Ali Slimani
Bonnie et Clyde by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot!
Die Eine by Die Fantastischen Vier
The Gypsy Kings - Hotel California
"Cale Bari Dub Bari" & "Tiempo de Drumba: by Ojos de Brujo off their Bari/Remezclas de la Casa album are great. Their gypsy, flamenco, hip hop, and pretty sexy in general.
