Every now and then a band/musician will write a song about someone famous. Actors, politicians, singers, models, etc. For the 9:30 Coffee Break, help us put together a set of tunes with a famous name in the title.
Here are few ideas to trigger the brainstorming:
David Bowie "Andy Warhol"
Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes"
Bauhous "Bela Lugosi's Dead"
Mason Jennings "Ballad of Paul & Sheila"
With your help, here's what we went with for the 9:30 Coffee Break set:
The Replacements "Alex Chilton"
Billy Bragg "Levi Stubb's Tears"
Weezer "Buddy Holly"
Van Morrison "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven)
Cake "Frank Sinatra"
The Decemberists "Valerie Plame"

Birthdays:

Richard Carpenter (the Carpenters) is 63
Don Stevenson (Moby Grape) is 67
Barry McGuire is 74
On this day in 1955, "Grand Ole Opry" made its TV debut on ABC.
In 1971, Rick Nelson was booed when he performed new material at an oldies show in New York. It inspired him to write the song "Garden Party."
In 1976, Ike and Tina Turner split up as a musical act.
In 1977, Fleetwood Mac released "Rumours," one of the best-selling albums of all time.
In 1987, Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia opened a sold-out two-week run of solo shows on Broadway.
In 1996, drummer Tommy Lee of Motley Crue was charged with attacking a tabloid TV cameraman. The photographer was trying to take pictures of Lee and his wife, actress Pamela Anderson Lee, outside a nightclub in suburban Los Angeles.
It was on this day in 2002, musician Ryan Adams jumped into the audience at a show in Nashville to find a fan who had yelled out a request for "Summer of '69," a Bryan Adams song. Adams gave the fan $30 as a refund and refused to continue the show until the man left. I have a nagging feeling that joke was unfunny the first 500 times Ryan heard it. This morning, we played a tune from his 2002 release Demolition called, "Starting to Hurt."

If we were writing a personal about the headlined topic, it might look like this -
Desperating seeking retro show name. Email or leave a comment below. Music from late 70s to early 90s. Life before Nirvana. Help!
This Saturday morning we're launching a new show from 8am-10am on the Current - the show will delve into the history of Alternative music - from punk to grunge, with an emphasis on the late '70s to the late '80s era when post-punk or indie or modern or college rock (or whatever you want to call it) was first emerging as an alternative culture to the mainstream - think bands like Talking Heads, Smiths, INXS, Specials, R.E.M., and thousands more... and after several brainstorming sessions, we still feel like we haven't found the right name yet.
So here's where you can help - let's have a virtual brainstorm - chip in your ideas here, leave comments on other folks', and maybe you'll be the person who names our new show.
AND as an incentive, if we use your idea, we'll hook you up with a couple of CDs - recent reissues from Radiohead (Kid A) and Beastie Boys (Ill Communication).
