Monsters Of Folk has a new self titled album out and it is our featured CD of the week! We'll be hearing multiple tracks from the record all week including "Baby Boomer", "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)", "Losing My Head", "Say Please", "The Right Place" and "Whole Lotta Losin'". Monsters Of Folk is in stores now. Monsters of Folk consists of Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes and M. Ward. They formed in 2004 when the members were on tour with their respective bands and solo projects. After playing together both on-stage and backstage, they started working together. This is Monsters Of Folk's first full album!
Air "So Light Is Her Footfall" from thier new album Love 2 in stores October 6th. Air is a French music duo, consisting of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. Their name AIR actually stands for Amour, Imagination, Rêve which translates to Love, Imagination, Dream. Before founding AIR, Dunckel and Godin played together in the band Orange, with others such as Alex Gopher, Xavier Jamaux and Etienne de Crécy. Air is heavily influenced by the synthesizer sounds of the 1970's and while categorized as electronic music actually uses many of their studio instruments (like Moog synthesizers, the Korg MS-20, Wurlitzer and Vocoder) live on stage. Love 2 is Air's 9th album.
A Place To Bury Strangers "In Your Head" from thier new album Exploding Head in stores November 7th. New York-based indie rock band A Place to Bury Strangers includes Oliver Ackermann (guitar/vocals), Jono MOFO (bass) and Jay Space (drums). The band plays a heavy, atmospheric wall of sound-influenced blend of psychedelic rock, shoegaze and space rock. They've been called by various indie reviewers and bloggers the loudest band in New York City. Exploding Head is their second full length album.
The Avett Brothers "Laundry Room" from thier new album I and Love and You. The Avett Brothers are from Concord, North Carolina and is made up of two brothers, Seth Avett and Scott Avett, who play the guitar and banjo. Bob Crawford who plays the stand-up bass. Prior to The Avett Brothers, Seth and Scott had another band called Nemo that eventually evolved into The Avett Brothers. They combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk, and ragtime and their live performances showcase their use of three-part harmony and southern rock feel. I and Love and You is their 10th album.
Foo Fighters "Wheels" from their new greatest hits album in stores November 3rd. Foo Fighters are an American rock band formed by singer/guitarist/drummer Dave Grohl in 1995. Grohl formed the group after the break up of his previous band, Nirvana, in 1994. Initally Foo Fighters was a one man band. With the exception of a guitar part on "X-Static" by Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs, Grohl played every instrument and sang every vocal on the tracks of their first album. He hoped to keep his anonymity and release the recordings in a limited run under the title "Foo Fighters", taken from the World War II term "foo fighter", used to refer to unidentified flying objects. The name stuck and he soon drafted Nate Mendel (bass), William Goldsmith (drums), and Pat Smear (guitar) to complete the group. Goldsmith left soon after their second album in 1997 and was soon followed by Smear. They were replaced by Taylor Hawkins and Franz Stahl. This new Greatest Hits collection is the best of the bands last six albums.
Grizzly Bear "About Face" from their new album Veckatimest in stores now. Grizzly Bear is a Brooklyn-based band, comprising Daniel Rossen (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Ed Droste (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, backing vocals, various instruments, producer) and Christopher Bear (drums, backing vocals). Having been called one of the most innovative new acts of recent times, their sound is often categorized as psychedelic pop, folk rock, and experimental. The band is one of the few non-electronic artists signed to Warp Records. Veckatimest is their third album.
Jack Penate "Pull My Heart Away" from his new album Everything Is New in stores now. Sonically based in the Two-Tone ska revival and the soulful sounds of '80s pop, Jack Penate has made quite a name for himself across the pond in the UK. Born in Blackhealth, England, he's not only developed a reputation for his infectious song writing skills but also for his frenetic on-stage dancing! Everything Is New is his second album.
Moby "Study War" from his new album Wait For Me in stores now. An American DJ, singer-songwriter, and musician, Richard Melville Hall is better known by his stage name Moby. According to Hall, his middle name and the nickname "Moby" were given to him by his parents because of an ancestral relationship to Moby Dick author Herman Melville. Moby became a successful artist on the ambient electronica scene, and achieved eight top 40 singles in the UK during the 1990's with his hugly successful release Everything Is Wrong. In 1999 he released the critically acclaimed album Play. Play became a commercial and cultural phenomenon, selling over 10 million copies worldwide and was named the biggest-selling electronica album ever. AllMusic considered Moby "one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in the UK and in America. Wait For Me is Moby's 9th album.
The Noisettes "Wild Young Hearts" from Their new album Wild Young Hearts in stores now. Noisettes are a band from London comprised of singer and bassist Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith, and drummer Jamie Morrison. They formed in 2003 when Smith and Shoniwa of the band Sonarfly began playing and writing together. The three had previously attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon together. They quickly formed a reputation for being one of the rowdiest live acts in London. Wild Young Hearts is The Noisettes second album.
Paul Westerberg "Good As The Cat" from his new album PW & The Ghost Gloves Cat Wing Joy Boys available online now. Paul Westerberg is best known as the former lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter of The Replacements, one of the seminal alternative rock bands of the 1980s. He launched a solo career after they disbanded. In recent years, Paul has cultivated a more independent-minded approach to making music by primarily recording at home in his basement.
The Swell Season "Low Rising" from their new album Strict Joy available in stores. The Swell Season consists of Irish musician Glen Hansard of The Frames and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová. The title of the album as well as of the song "The Swell Season" is inspired by Hansard's favourite novel by Josef Škvorecký from 1975. Since staring in the 2007 film Once, Glen and Markéta began referring to themselves as "The Swell Season" in promotion of their performances. Strict Joy is their third album.
