As I explained to a friend when asked what the State Fair hubbub was all about, "it's exactly what I expected, but MORE" - meaning, yowza, I've been to fairs before, but never seen anything like this - the sheer scale and size and humanity - it's overwhelming! As are the many many many many many food choices. My first day 'work'?
Pronto Pup: Start with a classic, right? I liked it. I expected it to be more different than a corn dog than it was. A good base to lay on. I'm gonna give it a solid 7.
Porckchop!
Strawberry-Rhubarb Malted Milkshake: What a way to wash it all down? A trip to the Dairy Barn and a delicious delight. I don't know that I could handle a shake every day of the fair, but given the wholesome basicness of the ingrediants, this felt like a relatively healthy indulgency. 8.
Butter Queen!
Still to come... well, I started pretty basic on my first day - with variations of food I've actually consumed at some point in my life. Today I hope I will overcome my fear of instant heart attack and try the choco-bacon on a stick, or maybe the deep fried Snickers, or the deep friend pickle... we'll see - another day, another gastronomical test! Whatever it is, I have a feeling the phrase "On-a-Stick" will accompany.
Any culinary suggestions? Let me know what I should try next... and - See You At The Fair!
Sheep! Not food!
Don't let the chocolate-covered bacon scare you, I tried it last year and actually really liked it! If you like salty + sweet, and you like chocolate and bacon separately, you'll probably like this treat. The hardest thing to get over is that the bacon is served cold.
