Hey there! It's Melanie Walker the Music Director here at The Current! Check out the latest new music we'ved added to our playlists each week here on The Current's music blog! You can learn more about the artist or band and listen to more of their music by clicking on their name. It will link you directly to their website. Enjoy!

David Bazan's "Bless This Mess" from his new album Curse Your Branches due to release September 1st. David Bazan wasn't introduced to secular music until his early youth, due to his rigerous religious upbringing by his father who was a pastor. Living in that household was a life changing experience that helped fuel the songwriting of his first project, Pedro the Lion. Bazan has also been the lead singer of another band called Headphones that was formed primarily because of his fascination with synthesizers. He began releasing his own solo work in 2006. Curse Your Branches is actually David Bazan's very first full length solo release!

Beastie Boys "Too Many Rappers" from their new album Hot Sauce Committee due to release September 15th. Still going strong, Hot Sauce Committee is the Beastie's 8th Studio album. Having started as a hard core punk band in 1979, the Beastie Boys were one of the first white hip outfits to actually gain critical acclaim. Their latest release is said to go in a "bizarre" direction, saying "It's a combination of playing and sampling stuff as we're playing, and also sampling pretty obscure records."

Amanda Blank's "Make It Take It" from her new album I Love You in stores now! Amanda Blank is a MC from Philadelphia that not only known for her talent but for being somewhat flamboyant as well. She's been a prominent member of a performance art group in Philly called Sweetheart and gained most of her notoriety from her collaborations with a hip hop outfit called Spank Rock. I Love You is her first full length release. Warning: explicit lyrics

Florence & The Machine's "Kiss With A Fist" from her new album Lungs due to release August 25th. Florence Welch from South London has been making quite a name for herself in the UK and now in the States as well. Her debut release is a collection of tracks she's had multiple producers and musicians collaborate with her on. According to Welch "The name Florence and the Machine started off as a private joke that got out of hand. I made music with my friend, who we called Isabella Machine to which I was Florence Robot. When I was about an hour away from my first gig, I still didn't have a name, so I thought "Okay, I'll be Florence Robot is a Machine," before realizing that name was so long it'd drive me mad". Lungs has been nominated for a 2009 Mercury Prize award, which is a very prestigious award in the UK.

Joe Henry's "Progress of Love" from his new album Blood From Stars in stores tomorrow, August 18th. Joe Henry's evolving sound has gained a cult following throughout the years. He's best known for his work on his two albums Short Man's Room and Kindness of the World, both of which feature members of the Jayhawks. But, he's also well known for being an adventurous artist that is just as eclectic as he is talented. What direction will Joe Henry be going in next? His latest release, Blood From Stars, is primarily influenced by the blues.

Mason Jennings "Ain't No Friend Of Mine" from his new album Blood of Man due to release September 15th. Mason is well known as one of the most recent success stories to come out of the Twin Cities. But, most don't realize that this singer songwriter was surprisingly born in Hawaii. Mason Jennings blends the talents of both an introspective poet, the political savvy and passion of an activist, with an eclectic palette of musical influences and the passion of a true rock n' roller. On Blood of Man, Mason indulges that rock n' roll side of himself more than most of the work he's done. Blood of Man is Mason's 8th full lenth album.

Modest Mouse's "King Rat" and "Guilty Cocker Spaniels" both from their new EP No One's First and You're Next in stores now! The latest venture from Issaquah, WA, indie rock trio Modest Mouse is not an album but an EP! Having had their commercial breakthrough with Good News for People Who Love Bad News, they continued that success with their next album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. This latest EP, No One's First and You're Next , is actually re-recorded versions of songs recorded during the Good News and We Were Dead sessions. Most of these tracks on the EP were originally released on three limited-edition 7" singles. If you missed out on owning them on LP you can now have them on CD!

Jack Penate has a new album out titled Everything Is New and it is our featured CD of the week! We'll be hearing multiple tracks from the record all week including "Be The One", "Let's All Die", "Pull My Heart Away", "Tonights Today" and "So Near". Everything Is New is in stores tomorrow, August 18th. Sonically based in the Two-Tone ska revival and the soulful sounds of '80s pop, Jack Penate has made quite a name for himself across the pond in the UK. Born in Blackhealth, England, he's not only developed a reputation for his infectious song writing skills but also for his frenetic on-stage dancing! Jack will be coming to the Twin Cities soon for the first time on September 26th at the 7th Street Entry. This is a show that is not to be missed!

Radiohead just released a new song independently titled "These Are My Twisted Words". Unfortunately, there is no new album on the way just yet. But, we're all patiently waiting for that next masterpiece from a band that has seemingly provided us with some of the best music of the last two decades. So, what is next for Radiohead? Thom Yorke was recently quoted in the press suggesting that Radiohead would turn their focus from full length albums to release EPs. You can download this new track, "These Are My Twisted Words", from their website free of charge.

Volcano Choir's "Island, IS" from their new album Unmap which due to release September 22nd. Long before Justin Vernon began recording under the name Bon Iver, he was collaborating with Jon Mueller, Chris Rosenau, Jim Schoenecker, Daniel Spack, and Thomas Wincek on a side project called Volcano Choir. Volcano Choir continues in the Bon Iver tradition with haunting melodies, and subdued arrangements. Yet this project incorporates more lush orchestral soundscapes that stray from Bon Iver's signature isolated starkness. We're all looking forward to hearing more from them in the coming month. Unmap is Volcano Choir's first full length release and I'm hoping it won't be their last.
