Singer/guitarist Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is 60.
Rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot is 46.

1964 - The Beatles first film A Hard Days Night opened in 500 American cinemas to rave reviews.
1984 - As The Olympic Games came to a close, Lionel Richie performed, "All Night Long" live from Los Angeles to an estimated television audience of 2.6 billion people around the world.
1994 - Woodstock '94 was held in Saugerties, N.Y. About 350,000 people saw the show, which included mudfights during Green Day's and Nine Inch Nails' sets and the Red Hot Chili Peppers dressed as human light bulbs.

It was on August 12th 1968 that Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham played together for the first time, rehearsing in a basement room under a London record store. The first song they played was a version of "Train Kept A-Rollin." After a brief period calling themselves The New Yardbirds (after Page's previous group), they settled on the name Led Zeppelin - the "a" in "lead" dropped because the band's manager Peter Green insisted that "thick Americans" would pronounce the word "leed." From Zep's first record, we played "Communication Breakdown" this morning.

Jon Bauer from Brooklyn Pk. picked today's My 3 Songs set because...

"My grandma passed away recently and one of the first things I did after her passing was create a playlist of songs that reminded me of her. Strangely enough, the song Suzanne by Leonard Cohen was the only song I remember her loving, so I synched the rest of the playlist with songs that matched her soul. She may not have known Beck or Nick Drake, but they say more about her personality than anything I could put into words. These three songs are my favorites."

Leonard Cohen - "Suzanne"
Beck - "The Golden Age"
Nick Drake - "Northern Sky"
