A free tune from our Rock The Garden headliners.

Posted at 10:00 AM on June 18, 2009 by Barb Abney

The Decemberists will be headlining Rock The Garden along with Yeasayer, Calexico and Solid Gold this Saturday.

Let's take a look at how The Decemberists have been featured on our station:

They were the #1 choice of our listeners in the Top 89 of 2006.

Carson Ellis (cover artist for The Decembersists and Colin Meloy's baby-mamma) designed The Current Artist Series Tote Bag exclusively for our listeners as membership gifts.

Back in March, Colin called in for an interview with Steve Seel.

Bill DeVille, Mark Wheat and Mac Wilson reviewed The Hazards Of Love on a past episode of Musicheads.

Today on our Song Of The Day podcast you can grab the tune "Hazards of Love 1 (The Prettiest Whistles Won't Wrestle The Thistle Undone" for free!

If you're a new subscriber to the Song Of The Day podcast, you'll also receive new music from Jarvis Polly Scattergood, Solid Gold, Yeasayer and Calexico.

Tomorrow we will be featuring new local music from Two Harbors.

Today In Music History: Happy Birthday Macca

1948 - Columbia Records started the first mass production of the 33-RPM LP record, the "long player." The new format could contain a maximum of 23 minutes of music per side versus the three minutes that could be squeezed on to a 78 RPM disc.
1974 - Peter Hoorelbeke, drummer with US band Rare Earth, was arrested after a concert for throwing his drumsticks into the crowd.
1975 - Elvis Presley had a face-lift at Mid South hospital, Memphis.
1977 - Talking Heads bassist Tina Weymouth and drummer Chris Fantz were married. The two later went on to form Tom Tom Club.
2004 - David Bowie was hit in the eye with a lollipop thrown onto the stage while he was performing in Oslo, Norway. Although the lollipop lodged in his eye socket, he was not
seriously hurt.

Paul McCartney is 67 today. Not much can be said about Macca that hasn't already been said regarding his huge, incredible influence on rock and roll, with The Beatles and as a solo artist as well. We decided on "Eleanor Rigby" today to showcase Paul's lushly melodic contribution to the Beatles' sound.
