Random Vinyl: Week of 5/11-5/15

Every weekday at 6:30 a.m., Jill and I dig into our vinyl collections and play a track that hits our fancy for the day. Problem is, there are a lot of fans who miss it due it being the crack of dawn.
We'll offer up the complete week's worth of Random Vinyl every Friday so those of you who miss it can get caught up.
Random Vinyl: May 11 - 15
Monday: Best of the Beach Boys Vol. 2 - "Long, Tall Texan"
A greatest hits compilation that Brian Wilson wasn't involved in (and certainly not happy with) as he was working obsessively on "Smile" at the time ... so that makes it even more suited to Random Vinyl.
Tuesday: Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl - "Boys"
Released in the late 70s ... Jill's copy is pretty immaculate, and even has the really handsome embossed cover. On "Boys" Ringo takes the vocal - and it sounds nothing like the later Ringo of "Act Naturally" or even "A Little Help From My Friends."
Wednesday: The 5th Dimension - "The Age of Aquarius"
I had this tune as a 45 when I was a child, and so when I found the whole LP recently in reasonably decent shape, it was a must have. Besides, you get all the birthdays and zodicacal signs of all the members!
Thursday: Aretha Franklin - "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
Okay, this one was the highlight of the week, without question. Keith Richards looks quite alive on the cover, which is a delight of near Dada-ist absurdity.
This cover was recorded for the Whoopi Goldberg movie "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Remember that one? Neither did I. I don't care. Any movie that gave us this album cover was worth producing in my book.
Friday: Jason and the Scorchers - "White Lies"
Jason & The Scorchers' full-length debut from 1985. This is a band who suffered the unfortunate fate of being unclassifiable genre-wise by any standards of the day (they weren't punk, they weren't country, and this was long before the alt-country movement began), so they ended up being mostly brushed aside by the music industry. This record might have been their brightest moment.
