And Then There Was One (Or, One Hynde and Two Smiths)

Today's 9:30 Coffee Break topic was about bands that contain only one remaining original member. I was inspired to solicit requests on this subject after it was reported yesterday that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin is leaving Smashing Pumpkins, in essence leaving the band a Billy Corgan solo project (one could argue about how much of a change that represents, of course). So, I wondered: what are some other bands that, at some point, became solo projects for their core member too?

Great suggestions today, ranging from Lynyrd Skynyrd to the Beach Boys (Al Jardine was not in the band at the beginning!), Ministry, War, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and of course Guns n' Roses (although Heather E. nailed it when she said, "I'm not sure if Axl even counts as an original member since he's been through so many iterations of himself - including the latest and not greatest hair plug and dread lock phase").

Here's what we went with:

1) The Pretenders, "Boots of Chinese Plastic"
2) The Fall, "Sparta 2XX"
3) The Cure, "The Perfect Boy"

Chrissie Hynde, Mark E. Smith, and Robert Smith are indeed their bands. Thanks to everyone who requested today!
