"Do You Realize?" Named "Official Oklahoma State Rock Song!"

Posted at 7:48 AM on March 3, 2009 by Steve Seel

The magical positive karmic energy that emanates from Wayne Coyne continues to come back to him in spades every day. Witness the latest: The Flaming Lips' "Do You Realize?" has just been named the "Official Rock Song" of the State of Oklahoma. At first you scratch your head in disbelief, and then you go, "of course."

More thana 21,000 Oklahomans voted online from a list of 10 songs - winnowed down from over 400 - selected by a "panel of experts" (can we thank those experts, and whoever nominated them, for being on top of things for once?). The winner was announced yesterday in the Oklahoma senate. Now THAT I would have loved to see.

"Do You Realize?" beat out such older tunes as "Walk Don't Run" by The Ventures, "Let's Have a Party" by Oklahoman Wanda Jackson, and "After Midnight" by Oklahoman J.J. Cale, made famous by Eric Clapton.

Raise you giant styrofoam fists in the air and celebrate another victory for Oklahoma City's favorite freaks.

My 3 Songs 03/03/09
Jennifer Anitzberger from Eagan picked this set because..

" I call them My Make Me Wanna Turn the Volume UP Songs. From Denver, to Minneapolis, to England.... different spots around the globe produce the same result: when I hear them on The Current, I crank it... In my living room, at work, in my car, grocery shopping ... wherever... (There may or may not be dancing involved.)"

Dressy Besssy - "She Likes It"
We Became Actors - "Mother Russia"
New Order - "Temptation"

The Current Widget - Every Page Deserves a Soundtrack

Posted at 1:40 PM on March 3, 2009 by Michael Wells (2 Comments)

So is your blog looking a little sparse and lonely? Is your last post titled "Sorry I haven't updated in awhile" and that was a couple months ago? Well, we at The Current feel your pain, and we're here to help. We've built a live-stream widget for you to embed in your personal blog, Facebook, MySpace, or even - for you last three holdhouts - Orkut. Pretty much any space you think a little music may help, we can be there.

Here's the bonus: When you use the widget to listen to The Current, you're actually saving us money. Instead of mp3, we're using aacPlus. From a quality standpoint, you won't notice the difference but it costs us about half as much. Cool, eh?

Just click on the "Get & Share" on The Current Widget below to share the music.
