Breaking news: U2 will perform as the musical guests all five nights on The Late Show with David Letterman, the week of March 2nd-6th. Apparently, this massive counter-balancing measure is also necessary to clear your brain of the memory of The Jonas Brothers last night.
I admit to dorking out over this a little bit. Yes, total PR stunt. Yes, could bite them on the (ahem) boot, but I still think that this is a pretty cool move for one of the biggest bands in the world to make. I hope they have fun with it and pull out some oldies too, like their SNL appearance from two years ago. Dave should have these residencies every now and then: 5 nights with Bruce, 5 nights with Beyonce, Justin, REM, etc... get those hard-core fans to tune in repeatedly and see if it can become habit!
I agree! And something tells me U2 won't screw it up; I think they probably learned so much from the one big flubbed PR episode of their career - the Pop Mart tour and everything associated with it - that at this point they're likely some of the most savvy "hype strategizers" in the music business.
Oh, and I should have specified, since I didn't make it explicitly clear: this is all to coincide with the release of No Line On the Horizon on March 3rd, natch.
judging by Joaquin's appearance on the Letterman show, he might be going through an identity crisis
