"My 3 Songs" for Friday

Posted at 4:25 PM on November 14, 2008 by Steve Seel

Dain Larsen of Mpls writes today, "I recently moved back to Minneapolis from the cold, barren, cheese-infested land of Green Bay. For whatever reason, these very different songs have been haunting me (in a good way) since returning to this great city."

1) Cat Power, "Willie"
2) Cloud Cult, "Everybody Here Is A Cloud"
3) David Bowie, "Fame"

"Cheese-infested?" Love that phrase, Dain. Yup, that's a pretty diverse set. But who cares. Welcome home.

Guest DJ Set 11-14-08

Posted at 9:36 PM on November 14, 2008 by Mark Wheat

Thanks to Dave Campbell for filling in for me last week. Unfortunately we didn't post the set list but it was another jam filled extravaganza from our resident
First Friday Guest;
DJ ESP.
Perhaps the only DJ from the Twin Cities that has as big an international reputation is Freddy Fresh, who literally wrote the book on early hiphop records and now runs a label outta St.Paul called Howlin Records! He sent me a big parcel of goodies last month including this new cd from Myagi. It's his debut full length, all his own production but paced and mixed like a regular mix that you might hear him spin on the California and Australian beach parties that he's famous for. You can buy '3 Years of Sunshine' from Howlin and this is the segment that we played;

03 Heads N Tails
04 In Between
05 Payback
06 Relativity (feat The Conductor Crucified0
07 Stuck in a Box (feat Brittlestar)
