THOMAS DOLBY (Brit '80s pop/rock star; an early MTV favorite; "She Blinded Me With Science") Turns 50.
KIRSTY MacCOLL (Brit pop/rocker with a solid following in U.K., drowned during a Mexico vacation as her star was rising in the U.S.) Born in 1959 in Croyden, England. Died in December of 2000 in Cozumel, Mexico.
MIDGE URE (Ultravox founder) turns 55
THELONIOUS MONK (Jazz Genius) Born in 1917 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Died in 1982.

In 1970, FCC Commissioner Johnson responded to Vice President Agnew's assertion that rock music drove youngsters to drugs, suggesting that Agnew would be well-advised to listen to it himself in order to better understand what was happening in his country.
