We play all kinds of sets on My 3 Songs. Some silly, some romantic, some wistful. Today is a serious one, that came in yesterday from Kelly Culhane. She writes:
"Today is one of these days, in the day of the lafe of a breast canSer survivor (I spell it wrong just to piss it off). Things to do today: 1) Get suspicious lump in the chest wall looked at even after a double mastectomy, 2) Schedule reconstruction surgery, 3) Try not to think about whether you'll be around next Halloween." She closes by saying, "Today, this BC thing is like an elephant in the room instead of just a crumb on the floor. Because of that I'm hoping you can play my three songs. Thanks!"
Kelly, we didn't have to think twice about it.
1) Bob Dylan, "I Shall Be Released"
2) The Suburbs, "Life Is Like"
3) Wilco, "Either Way"
By the way, after I played Kelly's set, Sherri from Pullman WA wrote in to remind us that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "Cancer has affected us all in one way or another, and I appreciate hearing about Kelly," she said.
Our thoughts are with you, Kelly. Those of us not in your shoes can't possibly know what it's like -- but you courage is still evident. Glad to have done at least a little something for you today.
