Andrew Toftey of Mpls writes today, "These are songs that go 'Wooooah!' We have a newborn and I've been listening to a lot of music to keep me awake, and to sing along to - in my head that is, don't want to startle the baby." (I misread Andrew's explanation and thought he said songs that MAKE you go "woooah," and he later e-mailed me to point out that what he meant was that all three songs have moments in them when their respective singers make that sound - or something like it. Sorry Andrew! These things wouldn't happen if I read every word in my e-mails).
1) Kings of Leon, "Be Somebody"
2) Arcade Fire, "Wake Up"
3) Dizzee Rascal, "Fix Up, Look Sharp"
He finished his original message by adding, "This category also includes The Hold Steady's 'Massive Night' and De La Soul's 'Ooooh.'"
In his follow-up e-mail to me, Andrew also enclosed a lovely .pdf copy of the birth announcement for Beatrice Hartley Toftey - "Bea" - on September 12th. Congratulations Andrew, and continued good luck staying awake on those long nights of daddy-duty.
