After reading the Strib's review of his show last night with MGMT, I asked for your feedback on the show. Here are a couple of reviews..

Tom's review:
I'd like to give Beck the benefit of the doubt last night, but it's hard. Granted, he didn't seem all that enthusiastic. And it kind of seemed like he really didn't want to be touring... Only about half his band seemed remotely interested in the show, and you could hardly distinguish between any of the sounds coming from the stage.

It doesn't help that Roy Wilkens is just a terrible, terrible venue. I can't remember the last concert I've seen there where the venue didn't ruin the show. The majority of the rock shows I've seen there are just loud, distorted messes.

Worth the $55+? No. But at least I can put Beck on my list of shows.

Heather's review:
1. Beck was great at usual-- not just the music, but he knows how to entertain a crowd. The set-list was interesting yet odd as he whipped through song after song like it was his last concert and had to fit in every thing he could, but it kept things moving and we got to hear A LOT of great favorites. LED visuals were mesmerizing and the headset breakdown of Hell Yes was funny.

2. MGMT was disappointing to say the least and I love their music. They sounded okay for some of the songs, but looked very bored/drunk/high on stage as if it wasn't worth their time to entertain the crowd. AND they only played for 25min! We were so confused.

ALSO, props to the tambourine player. The current couldn't have picked a better tambourine player to get up on stage and rock with the beck.

Tracee's review:
I was at the show last night and as excited as I was about it-- there were some weak moments.

I missed the majority of MGMT's show (I thought the doors opened at 7:30-- what a drag!) but I caught their last 2 songs and they seemed out of character with the feel of the album, which I LOVE. I heard their show was pretty weak, very low energy and I'd agree from what I saw. : (

Beck was good for the most part. The sound left some to be desired, especially so on "Hell Yes". The band broke down to all the funky little instruments they used on the Information album; I couldn't see a lot of detail form the balcony but they all donned headsets and handheld devices. I had mentioned to my friend Sean that he had to do this song (it's one of my favorites), but you couldn't hear the lead vocal at all which seemingly ruined the song for the crowd. On the next song Beck actually grabbed his other mic and it got better-- but as a whole that portion of the show was disappointing.

I love Beck and I was thrilled to be there, I left dripping wet with sweat from dancing and overall had a good time. I can't help but wonder if the sound problems were that of the venue or the band...

Curious to hear what others have to say about the show too.

Felicia's review:
I went to the Beck show last night, mainly to see MGMT. I've never been a big Beck fan. However, Beck really impressed me and I enjoyed his set. MGMT was slightly disappointing, I was waiting for their set to really take off and it never did. As for the tambourine guy, he was great and definitely looked like he had practiced at home.

I'll post more comments when/if/as they arrive in my inbox. Were you at the show? If so, give us your review!

Steve Seel recorded an interview with Beck yesterday prior to his show at The Roy Wilkins Auditorium. Hear it today around 1:00 p.m.

When I walked out of the Beck concert last night I turned to my friend and said, 'Here's my review. Disappointing but fun." She wasn't a Beck fan to begin with and I had bought her a ticket for her birthday. I don't think she was converted to a Beck fan today. The sound was disappointing. He changed the way he did so many songs that between the new versions and the poor sound I didn't recognize some of the songs until he was half way through them. Yes, I danced and had a good time but it was a let down. I was one of the oldest in the audience but didn't let that stop me from coming ready to party. I just hadn't planned on a surprise party! I still love Beck but don't know if I'd go to another of his concerts.
