Do The Shuffle

Posted at 1:37 PM on September 26, 2008 by Mac Wilson (3 Comments)

Let's have a rockin' fun time.

The Elected - "Beautiful Rainbow"
This is the side project of Rilo Kiley's Blake Senate. I wish they would let him be a bigger voice in Rilo Kiley; his "Dreamworld" was the highlight of Under the Blacklight.

Bob Mould - "Underneath Days"
I'm not even going to try to count the F-bombs.

Wire - "Mannequin"
One of the highlights (and at 2:37, one of the longer songs) on Wire's debut, Pink Flag.

The New Pornographers - "The Jessica Numbers"
In regard to numbers, pay attention to the main riff of the song -- it beats out 5, 3, 2, and 1 beat, respectively.

The Deaths - "Lemon Lane II"
A local band with "psychedelic" influences that never come off too strong or pretentious. This is a pretty instrumental from their latest, Centralia.

"My 3 Songs" for Friday

Posted at 4:06 PM on September 26, 2008 by Steve Seel

Happy Friday, everyone. Linda Marko has what she describes as a "not-so-elegant theme set" for us today:

1) Elvis Costello, "I Can't Stand Up (For Falling Down)"
2) English Beat, "Save It For Later"
3) The Fall, "Youwanner"

So what's the "falling" component of the English Beat tune? "Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground..."

Any topic is a viable topic here on M3S. Thanks Linda! See you Monday, folks.

Guest DJ Set 9-26-08

Posted at 9:12 PM on September 26, 2008 by Mark Wheat

Mark Farina will be back in town tomorrow night for a rather unique gig;

A few hours before Mark Farina takes the main stage, Minneapolis couple Carrie Quinlan and Jainarain Kissoon will take each other as husband and wife on the same stage when they are married at Epic. This will be the first marriage for Quinlan, Kissoon and Epic Events Center. The ceremony will take place at 6:30 pm as a private affair for friends and family but when 10:30 pm rolls around, the doors will open to the public and The Reception will really get started.

"We chose to have Mark Farina perform at our wedding because we've seen his DJ sets in the Twin Cities several times, and have always been impressed. We also liked the fact that Mark Farina has included Minneapolis artists Chuck Love and Alexander East on his compilations, so there?s a strong Minnesota connection, " said Kissoon.

Carrie and Jai met at the University of Minnesota during a dance crew competition called Ballyhoo, 8 years ago, and they have been together ever since. They have both always enjoyed and played an active role in the electronic music scene in the Twin Cities.Jai is a hobbyist DJ who has played in many clubs throughout downtown Minneapolis and Carrie has been a Go-Go dancer at many events.

This is the set we played, featuring as the wedding coouple pointed out, two local DJ's Alexander East and Chuck Love. It's part of the compilation cd he's just done for fabric;

1. " Together " - Giom
2. " Yellow Truth " - ( Atnarko Mix ) Chuck Love
3. "Why Not Rock?" - JT Donaldson & Uneaq
4. "Lead The Way" - Ricardo Rae
5. " Gettin' Ready" - John Larner
6. " Where Ya At?" - Inland Knights
7. " Got This Feeling" - (Latenight Society Dub) Homero Espinosa
8. " Believe En Me" - Alexander East
9. " The Blues Line" - (Tommy Largo Remix) Frank Solano
