"My 3 Songs" for Thursday

Posted at 2:32 PM on September 4, 2008 by Steve Seel

Georgia Fyke of Mpls is a new arrival here in town, and writes: "I'm requesting because I finally took both feet off the ground. I moved from Mississippi to Minneapolis a month ago for a boy who I've loved for over two years. I never thought I'd do it, and I love it ... but I haven't been through a winter yet. If I survive this first one, well, let's just say it's a good sign."

1) Unknown Prophets, "Summer Heat"
2) Regina Spektor, "Fidelity"
3) Simon and Garfunkel, "A Hazy Shade of Winter"

Georgia: it's gonna be fine. Winter is no big deal. You did not move to Hudson Bay. When I first moved here, I was afraid it was going to be like "The Shining," where the Twin Cities would be cut off from the rest of civilization for the entire winter while the highways would be shut down, and people wouldn't leave their driveways unless they had one of these on the front of their trucks. Turns out, it didn't happen that way. It can get cold at times -- so you wear a fleece hoodie. It's all good. Welcome to your new home!
