"My 3 Songs" for Wednesday

Posted at 2:37 PM on September 3, 2008 by Steve Seel

Nathan Steigman of St. Paul has a lot of back story to his picks today. He says:

1) DeVotchKa, "You Love Me": "My wife Amy and I were extremely lucky to see DVotchKa on our first trip to Paris in April of this year" (I'LL say). "They've always held a special place on our hearts ... we promptly saw them at First Avenue when we returned in May."

2) Gogol Bordello, "Through the Roof n' Underground": "Because sometimes life is like a trap set up for you. We've 'all had those days.' Also, (this is) probably the most intelligible and PG of a Gogol Bordello song ever written."

3) Death Cab for Cutie, "Crooked Teeth": "It's a grooving sort of thing that tells a story that makes you laugh while dancing or swaying in a hammock. The vocals are nice and interloped and enveloped or one of those antelopes or maybe possibly a giraffe."

Thanks Nathan. By the way, that's the first time I've ever had somebody's explanation for their set transform into an e.e. cummings poem at the end.
