I had better hustle and get Do The Shuffle posted this afternoon. My cousin's wedding is tonight, and I figured the best gift I could give him would be a timely installment of Do The Shuffle. Here's today's 5 songs, specially gift-wrapped for you:
The White Stripes - "Effect and Cause"
All of us have had exes who have gone psychopathic on you post-breakup. This is a nice song about arbitrary/inexplicable blame, and the fact that you have the moral upper hand through all of it.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Way Out"
They're in the studio, from what I hear, crafting a Show Your Bones followup that's strongly influenced by cats [citation needed]
Wilco - "You Are My Face"
The new and improved Wilco guitar attack gets its first proper studio workout on this, the second song from last year's Sky Blue Sky. You may remember it from the VW ads (I think this was the only ad from that series that I ever saw).
King Khan & The Shrines - "Burnin Inside"
Garage rock from the Berlin-based outfit. We'll be discussing it further on Musicheads this upcoming week...
George Harrison & Friends - "Awaiting on You All" (Live from the Concert for Bangla Desh)
Something about the syntax of this song has always been strange: "By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free...the Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see..." Also, who knew the Pope owned 51% of General Motors?

Reading the obits Jerry Wexler, one of the last of the original record guys. I ran across his, 20 essential recordings list.
This guy left an amazing body of work! I wonder if his headstone will read what he said once in an interview..."More bass please!"
