"These are three songs I always put on mix tapes," says Maren Johnson today. "Yes, tapes."
1) Leonard Cohen, "Famous Blue Raincoat"
2) The Beatles, "Happiness Is A Warm Gun"
3) Atmosphere, "The Abusing of the Rib"
Excellent set, Maren. Dark with great flow. And I appreciate your emphasis on tapes! Jeez, remember the day when you actually listened to something from start to finish -- experiencing the mix as the mix-maker intended -- rather than just skipping ahead to the next song? This is partially because fast forwarding is such a pain in the ass, whereas simply hitting ">>/" isn't. I know, the integrity of most mix CDs or iTunes mixes are still usually respected by those enjoying them, but still. Okay, I am a sentimentalist and it often clouds my perceptions somewhat. But all things have their value. I do indeed like the ability to re-arrange an iTunes mix into different orders ...
I'm finished now.
My Three Songs:
Greg Laswell - "High & Low"
Ryan Adams - "Alive"
Bon Iver - "Skinny Love"
