Are all the good band names taken?

Posted at 11:26 AM on July 20, 2008 by Bill DeVille (7 Comments)

After a run of "Wolf" bands the new trend appears to be bands borrowing the names of actors & actresses.

Here is a short list:

Abe Vigoda - opening for No Age Monday at the Triple Rock
Natalie Portman's Shaved Head - opening for CSS July 30th at First Avenue
Robert Downey Jr's
The Real Tuesday Weld

& we can't forget the 90's band, The Wynona Riders

Am I missing any?

Not an actor, but I still get a kick out of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

Can't think of any off hand, but will def give this some thought, it seems like there'd be a few bands with celeb names. Enjoyed browsing your blog.

@ Jill: bands whose names are complete sentences are another matter altogether. I always got Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and What Made Milwaukee Famous confused when both albums were in rotation about 2 years ago.

Do TV characters count? If so, does anyone else remember the locally-based "Willis Smoked A Guy" from the 90s? I think they formed just because of the name.

There's also Frances Gumm, on the local scene.

I used to be a big fan of JFA (Jodi Foster's Army).

And let's not forget the Dandy Warhols...

Let us not forget "Eve's Plum" after Brady Bunch actress Eve Plumb. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!!!

Like the run of "wolf" names I think the "vampire" trend should be mentioned. Vampire Weekend and Vampire Hands for starters.
