Patrick Park - "Here We Are"
One of my favorite artists delivers a nice summary of where are are as a country and as human beings, and gives a hopeful look forward.
R.E.M. - "The Wrong Child"
Mandolins and more mandolins.
M.I.A. - "Jimmy"
An urgent pop highlight from last year's album Kala. Based on "Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja", from the soundtrack of Disco Dancer, which was basically the Bollywood Saturday Night Fever.
Traffic - "Many a Mile to Freedom"
Steve Winwood probably gets the vocalist spot in my fantasy all-star band.
The Police - "Hole in My Life"
AKA, the song that appears after "Roxanne" that I always skip through to get to "Can't Stand Losing You".
Let’s see what The Pod has to spin for a truly gorgeous Spring day….
Ohio Players – Fire
Oh yeaaah…. I’m down with this one! Some perfect ‘70’s funk tailor made for cruising around town with the windows rolled down and putting on your “Funk Face”.
Jonathan Richman – You’re Crazy For Taking The Bus
Appropriate for JoJo’s birthday today. Happy Birthday JoJo! His somewhat misguided foray into country music, but it’s still a fun song.
Public Enemy – He Got Game
Based around samples from the Buffalo Springfield song “For What It’s Worth”, including a cameo from Stephen Stills
The Beatles – She Said She Said
The main lyric taken from a statement made by Peter Fonda during an acid-drenched party in LA at the home of The Byrds. He apparently kept muttering “I know what it’s like to be dead.” Stemming from an incident when he had accidentally shot himself.
Tullycraft – Secretly Minnesotan
Sure they’re twee as all get out, but a perfect summer song. One time I had gone onto Pandora.com and input “Tullycraft” as a band that I liked. The result came back: “If you like Tullycraft, you might like Tullycraft.” No kidding? Really? Whooda thunk?
