We bid a sad adieu to a faithful listener today. Matt Walcheske writes:
"Just months after I moved here 3 1/2 years ago, I found the joy of The Current. I had left Milwaukee, a city I love, but an absolute wasteland of FM radio.* I now find myself moving again, this time fo Chicago. And though I'll have a better job and be closer to family, sadly, the thing I will miss most will be 89.3. Here I work 5-6 days a week, often 9 hours a day or more, all in my truck. With no CD player, I can leave on The Current, never change the station, and be in complete radio bliss. I never knew something like The Current could exist and I know Chicago has nothing like it; few cities do. So, I'll begrudgingly rely on internet streams to keep my love of The Current allive. Since it's too hard to choose my new favorite artists which The Current has introduced me to, I decided to go with three concerts I attended in the Twin Cities that stand out in my mind. It's all bittersweet! Rock on."
1) Mates of State, "Goods (All In Your Head)"
2) Arcade Fire, "Intervention"
3) The Black Keys, "Your Touch"
Thanks for saying such kind things, Matt. Happy trails, and best of luck.
* (I should point out that things may have changed a bit in Milwaukee since Matt left: one of our good friends here, Tarik Moody, helped start an entirely new thing at 88.9 FM, Radio Milwaukee).
