Do The Shuffle

Phoenix - "Too Young"
I first heard this on the Lost in Translation soundtrack. It definitely recalls Fleetwood Mac circa 1975.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - "Cut Dead"
Speaking of Lost in Translation... Here's a slower track from Psychocandy, an album I've only recently delved into. Stephin Merritt says that Psychocandy was the last truly innovative pop album.

My Bloody Valentine - "Soon"
This is really getting bizarre. Not only are Psychocandy and Loveless spiritual cousins, Kevin Shields also did the music for...Lost in Translation. A friend of mine (who is a big MBV fan) once described "Soon" as an extended farewell, dropping out of the guitar part during the song's final moments to signify the listener re-entering 'the real world' again.

Radiohead - "A Wolf at the Door"
A twisted fairytale that brings Hail to the Thief to a frightening end. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood wrote the musical backing bed. Even after hearing it dozens of times, it's impossible for me to keep up with Thom Yorke's lyrics.

Aimee Mann - "The Moth"
To say I am looking forward to her new album (out June 3) is an understatement. This one is from her 2002 album Lost in Space, completing our mini-series of animal songs and overarching themes of Lost In-related music.

The first rule of Ballet Club...

Just a little something for a rainy Friday afternoon. I'm not a big ballet fan, but this is something I can enjoy. Makes me wonder if there's more classical ballet set to non-traditional music that I'm missing.

Atmosphere were stopped at the border, having to cancel their show in Toronto tonight. This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem it seems as Fields were stopped from coming to play at Coachella too, hope they let us out when we go on vacation this summer!
