Ever heard of Rokkervil?

This place is crazy. Music is on every corner!

Music is in the air around here! on every street. I have never seen more rock-n-roll vans hauling a trailer in my life! Should mention a few of my highlights from yesterday...Van Morrison played a 1 hour set a really cool club called La Zona Rosa. It was awesome to see Van the man playing the ukulele up close and personal. He's now into his 60's and his vocal prowess is still amazing!

Also had a chance to attend a portion of the Austin Music Awards at the Austin Music Hall last night. Spoon cleaned house winning a bushel basket full of awards. Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was in the house! He presented the legendary Roky Erickson with musician of the year award. Then it was my favorite set of the night! Ever heard of Rokkervil? The Austin band Okkervil River played a smoking little set including my favorite song of last year, "Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe" & were joined by the king of the Austin psychedelic scene of the 60's, Mr. Roky Erickson! Rokkeril did several tunes including a blistering version of one of my "go to" songs, "Your Gonna Miss Me."
Now that was a once in a lifetime performance! The kind of thing that can only happen here in Austin!

Now it's off to see the Twin Cities own Alarmists.

After many years enjoying the MMA Awards show at the Avenue,
seeing the Austin community come together last night at the gig that Bill described was incredible. The Austin Music Hall is spectacular and all of Spoon arrived to pick up their 7 Awards, including best band and album of the year. They're playing a free show tonight.
I get to walk out on the stage of that venue tonight to introduce one of my all-time faves Yo La Tengo. I'm pretty nervous, it's part of the NPR show that we're broadcasting...tune in at 8pm!

No real sun problems yet. But I am resorting to the floppy hat right now as it warms towards the end of the afternoon.
This morn the clouds rolled in and it really looked like we would have a storm, but DeVotchka broke the clouds! It brought tears to my eyes to see the large crowd surge forward as they went into their second song "We're Leaving" big smiles all around and the sun broke thru!

Cloud Cult just put on a spectacular show too, their new album sounds very special and they were extremely tight on the twists and turns of the new material.

The Rascals have just arrived so it looks like we're going to wrap up the first day with no schedule changes, which is amazing when you see the traffic chaos all around us!!

Rokkervil sounds like it was an awesome time. Wish I could have seen it. I like the music of Okkervil River and Roky Erickson more each day.
