Do the Shuffle

Behold the power of sock puppetry!
"Let's Stay Together," Al Green
Yeah, you've heard it a million times, but have you ever heard a couple of sock puppets do it?
"I.C.B.," New Order
This is a song from New Order's 1981 debut, Movement. This album doesn't get much respect but I think it's pretty good. Yes, it sounds like Joy Division with lasers but it's still a decent bridge between JD and the sound New Order would perfect on their next album, Power, Corruption & Lies. Here's some live footage from Berlin in '81. It's not the best quality, but still may hold interest for fans.
"Al Bine," Ali Farka Toure
I think this was the first song I heard by Toure. I love the lazy saxophone on it.
"Right Out of Your Hand," Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Nick Cave rules.
"Everything Man," Talib Kweli
The opening cut from Eardrum has a nice shot out to The Treacherous Three, the group that launched Kool Moe Dee into the hip-hop stratosphere.

Love the Sock Puppets! Is the male puppet named Nelson R. Gyle?
Okay, straight up shuffle - 5 in a row, let's spin the wheel....
Kraftwerk – Pocket Calculator
My favorite Kraftwerk song of all time. At one point I had three versions of this song. One in English, one in German, and one in Japanese. AND they’re coming to town on April 19th. Unfortunately, I’m already going to see Chuck D. at the Fakebook show that night.
Super Furry Animals – The Man Don’t Give a ___
Those wacky Welsh!!!
DeVotchKa – Too Tired
I love the toy piano on this song.
Kraftwerk – Tour De France
maybe Kraftwerk is trying to tell me something. But they’ve never covered the Hokey Pokey (aka the Hokey Cokey in the UK) quite like this.
Band of Bees – Chicken Payback
I defy anyone to NOT dance when they here this song.

Link didn't work for Hokey Pokey...
How about now?

LOL, Frick! And a little scary, too...
I'll see you at Fakebook on the 19th.
Fight the power!

Whenever I do this lately, I feel like my shuffle function is stuck in a funk. Let's see how this works...
Belle & Sebastian - "Mayfly"
One of the sprightly numbers from the second side of If You're Feeling Sinister.
The Rolling Stones - "Salt of the Earth"
They played this at The Concert for New York.
Albert Hammond Jr. - "Everyone Gets a Star"
I can see potential in his songwriting. His forthcoming second solo album intrigues me.
The Bravery - "Give In"
I should have deleted this album long ago.
Ron Sexsmith - "All in Good Time"
Just like so much of Ron's work, this song has one of those slowly addicting melodies that wedges itself squarely in my brain. I've been reading about the motif of harmful sensation lately; maybe I will write a blog post about it someday.

Stereolab - "Fiery Yellow" Stereolab seems to be my shuffle's Beck. I think they've shown up on at least 3 of my shuffles..
The Books - "Contempt" I really like this. I need to listen to it more...
My Morning Jacket - "Tyrone" The best American rock band working today covering Erykah Badu (sp?) This is just plain awesome...
White Flag - "Wuthering Heights" what do you know two covers in a row... 80's punk band covering Kate Bush. My favorite version of this song is, without a doubt, Pat Benatar's.
Neu - "After Eight" Pretty awesome. I need to listen to this more also.. So, Kraftwerk is playing one of like 5 shows in the U.S. at the Myth (?!) in April. Looks like I might be seeing a show at the Myth after all...
