"My 3 Songs" for Tuesday

We've got an interesting one today -- one that might provoke a bit of discussion (but if so, I hope it will stay light and not go to terribly negative places -- life is too short, folks). Mariah Marshall of Mpls writes, "This set originated out of a conversation of the most overplayed songs of the year. '27 Jennifers' and 'Paper Planes' are two songs that my roommates and I can use as weapons of annoyance against one another. Each one of us loves one of those songs as much as (one of) the other ones hate it. To round out the set, 'Young Folks'' is the unanimous vote for most overplayed song of the year."

1) Mike Doughty, "27 Jennifers"
2) M.I.A., "Paper Planes"
3) Peter Bjorn and John, "Young Folks"

I wouldn't argue with the PB&J myself, Mariah (as great a song as it is). I'll take the 5th (this time) on the M.I.A.; but I'm a bit puzzled by the Mike Doughty. I don't think we have played it that much; but maybe it's just come up a bit too much in your life. That's certainly valid, though ...

Interesting "Bizarro" world M3S set, Mariah!

First - thanks for playing my set that I made while avoiding studying for finals - Second - I don't think the amount of times 27 Jennifers was played even comes close to the amount of plays that Paper Planes and Young Folks had but I must just have had the good fortune to hear it every time it was played on this station. Kind of like when your iPod shuffles to the same song over and over again...

Hey Steve -

Don't you think it would be a good idea to keep a list of every "MyThree Songs" so people can go back through them - similar to the daily playlists but just listing My 3 songs? I think people would love being able to scroll back through them.

"Paper Planes" always disappoints me a little bit, just because it reminds me how much I'd rather be hearing the Clash's "Straight to Hell" more than this song (which, as most people probably know, is the sample that serves as the backing track for "Paper Planes").

Actually, I wouldn't mind hearing The Clash's "Straight to Hell" on The Current. (hint hint) Play it just to confuse the MIA fans who are too young to know any better.

The nice thing with The Current is that no song or artist is really overplayed that much. The Current is like Minnesota weather. If you don't like what you have right now, just wait a few minutes for something completely different.
