We've got an interesting one today -- one that might provoke a bit of discussion (but if so, I hope it will stay light and not go to terribly negative places -- life is too short, folks). Mariah Marshall of Mpls writes, "This set originated out of a conversation of the most overplayed songs of the year. '27 Jennifers' and 'Paper Planes' are two songs that my roommates and I can use as weapons of annoyance against one another. Each one of us loves one of those songs as much as (one of) the other ones hate it. To round out the set, 'Young Folks'' is the unanimous vote for most overplayed song of the year."
1) Mike Doughty, "27 Jennifers"
2) M.I.A., "Paper Planes"
3) Peter Bjorn and John, "Young Folks"
I wouldn't argue with the PB&J myself, Mariah (as great a song as it is). I'll take the 5th (this time) on the M.I.A.; but I'm a bit puzzled by the Mike Doughty. I don't think we have played it that much; but maybe it's just come up a bit too much in your life. That's certainly valid, though ...

I'm proud to say The Current has a new podcast called Facemelter. I've been working on it with Brett Baldwin, one of the new media producers here at Minnesota Public Radio. One day Brett and I found out that we both liked heavy guitars and that feeling you get when you know your face has been melted. So we came up with a concept-- let's talk about guitar solos that are so awesome, they melt your face!
So here we are! Sign up for the weekly podcast, make suggestions and get ready to have your face melted!
