I've decided to start reading again. I gave it up for a couple years after college, but old habits are hard to kick.
Can you recommend some stuff for me? I like music biographies. I feel like I should start with The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx...
Jill, bet that would be one crazy read. Care to lend it when you're done?
I've been meaning to pick up "Iggy Pop: Open Up and Bleed" but haven't gotten around to it. Obviously there's some screwed up priorities here. "I Need More" (autobio) might be more - and indirectly - revealing.
I'd recommend "I Am Not Myself These Days" by Josh Kilmer-Purcell if you're up for a quick read about why one man wore fish with his tall boots. It's not exactly a music biography - but does drag count at least in that it's in the entertainment world? (Another non-music bio that's still a good read is "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi.)
Well, I just finished "The Replacements:All Over But The Shouting" by Jim Walsh and enjoyed it quite a bit. I wasn't old enough to see those bands but it gives a good sense of the music scene at the time.
I want to read "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead: the Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon" . He pretty much told his wife to write is bio and leave in all the bad stuff. He was pretty messed up, but still a genius.
I've read so many music bios it's not even funny. I can barely remember which ones I've read. It's hard to read about people you admire sometimes because it destroys the mystery, but also it reminds you that they're just human beings too.
