I got a dog.

Dood, we tried this and failed miserably. We got a Schnauzer at the beginning of the month through a rescue organization. We were excited to be adding to the family, yadda yadda yadda. We called him Otis. The little guy was pretty cool but whenever we had company he'd go apesh-- and bark and growl for 45 minutes.
He was sleeping with Minnie and it was fine, but then he started growling at her. Experiment over!
Fortunately, it was within the two week trial period and we got our money back. Damn dogs....

So, what's its name?

Hey! we just got a dog too. He was given to my wife's grandparents as a gift. (?) We are all loving him. he's a chihuahua named Lucky. I've never been a small dog person really in my life. He actually plays like a cat and sleeps under the covers down by our feet... but he has certainly won me over... The kids are quite smitten as well... so, happy dog-owning, Mary.

We have a mini dachshund and I would post pictures if I knew how (or was able!) What breed is it, Mary?

I had a basset hound for almost 16 years - she was a sweet, loyal dog, but as a puppy she was um...challenging (as one friend of mine has said, "puppies bring out your dark side"). I miss her terribly. Getting a dog can be a life changing thing - but I'm already laying plans for my next one. Just remember - you are the alpha dog - if you can manage that, you're golden.

You know, our dog is the first thing I say hi to when I come home and I love her to death... Besides having not taught her to stay off the couches and having to vacuum up her sheddy hair every other day and getting her to speak on command instead of whenever she wants... She's great. But I am also glad that she is technically "not mine" and that I can leave her with the other household member when I want to go camping, or walking or whatever, because they are another person you have to take care of. Plus, I don't have to pick up the poop!! That is my limit and I cannot do it. But I love her to death and you know she's heard all my troubles so far and doesn't judge or give advice! She just gives kisses! Love it! Good luck with that one Mary!

She's a 3 year old female Pug named "Smudge".
My 3 cats are all surprisingly accepting of this noise machine I've brought into their lives.
The only thing I can liken some of her noises to are a heavy smoking 80 year old man with Asthma.
