Today we've got one that's a bit of a precursor to our Top 89 of 2007 that's coming up on New Year's Day: Tom Ragatz, who identifies himself as a resident of "Uptown, baby," says: "In a just world, these would have been the biggest three hits of 2007."
1) MIA, "Paper Planes"
2) Fountains of Wayne, "Someone to Love"
3) 1990s, "You're Supposed To Be My Friend"
Interesting melange of choices, Tom. Perhaps this is the one chance I'm going to get to say this about that particular MIA song: it's not one of my favorites (I try to avoid disparaging the music on the air -- all of us here at The Current play stuff that we don't necessarily like from time to time, because merely "playing what we like" personally is not what it's about). But I've gotta say, those gunshots and cash-register ka-chings in that tune make me absolutely cringe. My colleagues have pretty much labled me a wilting violet for this, claiming the song is merely "satire" -- but that argument hasn't budged my dislike of the tune one bit (the day I mentioned in a staff meeting that this song made my skin crawl, everybody looked at each other as if Michael Medved had just entered the room). Well, diff'rent strokes, y'all. (I do like the other tunes, though, Tom -- but the point is that it's called "My 3 Songs," not "Seel's 3 Songs").
This concludes today's episode of "One Man's Opinion." However, please proceed to the comments to weigh in on this if you so choose.
Either way, don't forget to listen New Year's Day starting at 10am for the Top 89 of 2007, as voted on by YOU -- not us, wilting violets or not. ;-)
