It's another "local tune" Friday. Today's is from Alison Rae from her self- titled CD w/the song, "Birds"...Alison will be performing at Jim Walsh's Hootenanny at Java Jack's in South Minneapolis this evening & will be a guest on the Local Show w/Dave Cambell this Sunday at 5pm.

Big night on NBC's Late Night With Conan O'Brien...Twin Citian Josh Harnett will be on to talk about his new film. The musical guest is Brother Ali who will be backed by the Twin Cities own Mint Condition! Maybe Conan shoulda flew to town and done the show from the Bryant Lake Bowl theater?

"My 3 Songs" for Friday

Posted at 12:22 PM on October 19, 2007 by Steve Seel

Happy Friday, everyone. As the girl with no eyeballs says, "the sun will come out tomorrow." Or at last it's supposed to. If it doesn't, I'm crackin' some skulls at the weather service for lyin' to us all week.

Today's set comes in from Jacob Deems from Eden Prairie, who offers "a three song set from the third coast: Chicago."

1) Wilco, "Far, Far Away"
2) Common, "Chi-City"
3) Robert Johnson, "Sweet Home Chicago"

Sweet set, Jacob! Thanks.

Shredding the Shredders

I imagine quite a lot of people have seen this already, but just in case you haven't and you could use a humor pick-me-up on this sixth straight day of cruddy weather, here's something that's been making me laugh hysterically (the article explains, then provides the links).

"StSanders" is the pseudonym of a very funny Finnish guy who has overdubbed horrible, awful, hilariously wretched guitar solos on top of the original solos in concert footage by famous "guitar gods" -- Clapton, Vai, Van Halen, etc. -- and sneakily posted the results on YouTube with titles to the affect of "Eric Clapton Shreds." As a friend of mine pointed out, reading the comments below of people actually thinking the solos were real is almost funnier than the bogus guitar solos themselves. But to me, those solos are the things -- absolute comic genius.

Ricardo Villalobos will release the next installment of the fabric records mix compilations this coming Tuesday 'fabric 36'. All the tunes on this mix are made and mixed by him and might be discribed as warm, organic techno of the highest order. The segment of the mix that we played was recorded live at the fabric club in London on July 21st of this year. Pitchfork gave it an 8.7 which is very very high for them, perhaps putting it in their top ten of the year. Last year his previous record review was the most read on the site. If you like the style of music this Pitchfork article might be a good place to start.
