Live Current Vol. 3! Monday and Tuesday Editions

Posted at 1:36 PM on October 9, 2007 by Steve Seel

As more evidence of my general brain-fog this week, I totally forgot to blog about this yesterday. All this week, we are unveiling the songs from our brand-spankin'-new disc of in-studio performances, Live Current Vol. 3. Every day this week at noon -- where we usually do "My 3 Songs" -- we're rolling out three songs a day (well, more or less; since there's a whopping 17 tracks on it, we're playing 4 tracks on both Monday and Friday). Needless to say, we're really proud of this latest edition to the Live Current series.

So what have we unveiled so far this week? Here's today:

1) Peter Bjorn and John, "Young Folks" (recorded live at The Current's broadcast at SXSW)
2) Michael Franti, "One Step Closer To You"
3) Storyhill, "Ballad of Joe Snowboard"

And yesterday:

1) Frank Black, "That Burnt Out Rock n' Roll"
2) The Young Knives, "Here Comes The Rumor Mill" (recorded live at SXSW)
3) Ben Lee, "Ripe"
4) Cloud Cult, "Pretty Voice"

We also have some extra web goodies for you this week: check out the homepage, as we're gonna be showing some in-studio video of various artists from the CD lineup. Also, when you pre-order the disc, you get a special secret bonus gift. Who doesn't like extra stuff?

Much more to come. Hope your're as fired up about this as we are.

Note: corrected for spelling.

Put Another Quarter Million in the Nickoledean

So Mac Wilson shared the playlist that cost a Minnesota woman $220,000 in fines from the Recording Industry Association of America.

* Guns N Roses "Welcome to the Jungle"; "November Rain"
* Vanessa Williams "Save the Best for Last"
* Janet Jackson "Let's What Awhile"
* Gloria Estefan "Here We Are"; "Coming Out of the Heart"; "Rhythm is Gonna Get You"
* Goo Goo Dolls "Iris"
* Journey "Faithfully"; "Don't Stop Believing"
* Sara McLachlan "Possession"; "Building a Mystery"
* Aerosmith "Cryin'"
* Linkin Park "One Step Closer"
* Def Leppard "Pour Some Sugar on Me"
* Reba McEntire "One Honest Heart"
* Bryan Adams "Somebody"
* No Doubt "Bathwater"; "Hella Good"; "Different People"
* Sheryl Crow "Run Baby Run"
* Richard Marx "Now and Forever"
* Destiny's Child "Bills, Bills, Bills"
* Green Day "Basket Case"

Frankly, I think that "Don't Stop Believing" is both worth every penny AND such an important song to our collective pop culture that no one should ever have to pay to hear it - it should be free to everyone at all times, dangit.

Now, I'm not going to get into the merits of the case and whether the industry should be able to sue people for sharing music, but I am going to ask the following questions.

A. What song would you pay $250,000 for?
B. What song would you pay $250,000 never to have to hear again?

See more about the ground breaking, earth shattering, precedent setting case at Wired.
