Today Mary interviewed Conrad Sverkerson, one of the recipients of the Sound Unseen Festival's Artists of Distinction award.
The fest is primarily for movies but they'll have a dance party, some concerts and a panel discussion about women in rock, too. It runs through Sunday. One of the highlights will no doubt be the charming documentary about the funniest and most perverted folkies in recording history, The Holy Modal Rounders.
Just got back from 7 Nights In The Entry and was absolutely mesmerized by the talent that was budding here in the Twin Cities, especially knowing how it was all going to pan out in the mid 80's.
There were a couple bands I had never heard of that sounded phenomenal - The Hypsterz (I believe that's how they spelled it) played an absolutely genius punk rendition of Funky Town that cracked the whole theater up, and the lovely power-80's lead singer of a band called Fine Art blew me away with her powerful alto voice and beautiful artsy hairdo. The 80's can't come around again fast enough.
